Bonus Podcast: From Heroes Pub -- Sailor Oyster Bay Fundraisers, Summer Brews and Smashes, and a Farmer's Market

In this month's podcast with the beer gurus at Katcef Brothers we hopped over to one of my favorite wing places, Heroes Pub in West Annapolis.
And oddly enough, but not so odd if you know Heroes and Kurt and Lila Beall, we spoke about Sailor Oyster Bar and how they are recovering and how you can help. Heroes was one of the VERY first businesses to step up to manage several fundraisers.
Clancy, the GM from Sailor Oyster Bar joined us to let us know how they, he, and the rest of the staff are doing and how we can support them during the next year as they rebuild after the June 8th fire. Spoiler: stay tuned for a Sailor Oyster Bar bash this summer to thank the community!
Of course, we talk about summer brews, summer events, Fourth of July Plans and the crazy amount of smashes and the new hot drink of the summer-- Nutrl.
And as we wrapped, (before I headed inside for a fantastic club sandwich) we needed to talk about community building and the Heroes Farmer's Market. It is in the parking lot of Heroes and the next one is Tuesday, July 12th from 3 pm to 7 pm!

Local Business Spotlight: TruCentered Chiropractic Care

Local Business Spotlight: TruCentered Chiropractic Care

Dr. Bryant Harris was nothing I was expecting when we arranged this meeting. Not only is he young, he has a very different chiropractic practice in TruCentered Chiropractic Care.
I arrived at Rise Up Coffee expecting to hear about sore backs and stiff necks but learned that it is a lot more than that. Especially since Dr. Harris has a very focused practice.
Perinatal and pediatric chiropractic care. Who knew? From pre-conception, through pregnancy, birth, and delivery, TruCentered can likely help with the issues that pop up.  For the pediatric set, he treats the usual symptoms and says that those symptoms may indeed be a catalyst to other behavioral issues.
And, he offered some analogies that really resonated with me!

As with most of the doctor spotlights we have done, this one was very fun and incredibly educational.

Bonus Podcast: Providence Point, A Conversation With Owners and Owners To Be

Bonus Podcast: Providence Point, A Conversation With Owners and Owners To Be

From Crystal Spring to The Village at Providence Point, the controversial independent living facility is galloping towards the finish line and everyone is hopeful that ground could be broken this fall.
With final City approval, sales are brisk at the sales center (with a complete model home) at 1997 Annapolis Exchange Parkway.
We sat down with the property owner, Janet Richardson Pearson; and were joined by Bryan and Liz Barrett along with Nancy Robin--three future residents!  And Liz was vehemently opposed to the project initially! Cyndi Walters, the new CEO at National Lutheran Communities and Services was also on hand for the update!
While the future residents are excited about the move, Janet Richardson (the owner of the land) is equally excited and proud that her vision of responsible use of the land is finally coming to fruition. More than a decade ago, she purchased land to thwart a planned 600-home community and has been working for another decade for all parties to agree on the final look of Providence Point.
Once the ground is broken, It is expected to take another year until the first resident moves in. In the end, the project will have 216 apartments, 30 cottages, 32 health care suites, and a variety of common spaces, dining venues, and fitness areas. They will re-forest any disturbed land (estimated to be 27 of 52.5 acres) with a 1-to-1 reforestation on-site, and the traffic impact will be minimal and mitigated.
Economically, construction will bring 200 full-time jobs, and once complete, another 200 jobs will be created with an approximate $1.7 million annual real-estate tax bill.
