That's funny: Mark Emmert now asking NCAA to put name, imagine and likeness rules on the books ASAP (College Basketball 05/11)

That's funny: Mark Emmert now asking NCAA to put name, imagine and likeness rules on the books ASAP (College Basketball 05/11)

Mark Emmert told The New York Times over the weekend that he wants the NCAA to have name, image and likeness rules on the books by July 1. Why July 1? That's when five states will have their own rules go live. It's a sticky situation, and change of tune, for the president of the NCAA. This is a story with a few layers, and we continue to follow and keep you up to speed on it because it's a huge story -- the biggest -- in college athletics this spring and summer. Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander also touch on Hartford (20:30), fresh off its first NCAA Tournament in school history, heading to D-III ... unless something can be changed in the next couple of months.
Here is Dennis Dodd's story on NIL that's referenced in the pod:

Should college basketball go to six fouls? And quarters? Plus: Gonzaga-UCLA rematch imminent, and Kentucky loads up (College Basketball 05/06)

Should college basketball go to six fouls? And quarters? Plus: Gonzaga-UCLA rematch imminent, and Kentucky loads up (College Basketball 05/06)

GP’s feeling a little froggy, so beware! The guys are back to discuss three topics: the rules changes that could be coming to college basketball next season, Gonzaga-UCLA (23:40) closing in on playing each other and why other top-20 programs should be trying to do the same right now, and Iowa’s CJ Fredrick committing to Kentucky (42:00), bolstering the Wildcats’ desperate need for 3-point shooting. The end has some fun housekeeping notes as well. Terry Teagle … no longer a legend?

With almost no justification for doing so, the NCAA stupidly but unsurprisingly extends Mark Emmert's contract (College Basketball 04/28)

With almost no justification for doing so, the NCAA stupidly but unsurprisingly extends Mark Emmert's contract (College Basketball 04/28)

The NCAA quietly announced late Tuesday night that president Mark Emmert had his contracted extended through 2025. It's baffling, and it's why we open this week's pod on the topic. Then Norlander and Parrish get to Loyola Chicago (22:00) hiring the youngest coach in D-I basketball -- while somehow keeping the roster almost entirely in tact. Pretty impressive. The pod closes with some thoughts on Texas (35:45) and then a Trivia Time! for you, the listener!
Here is the Trivia Time! Name the 17 coaches in the past 25 seasons to get their first head-coaching job while simultaneously inheriting a program that made at least the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament the season prior.

No. 1 prospect Chet Holmgren is going to Gonzaga, giving Mark Few his best class in school history (College Basketball 04/19)

Gonzaga is reloading. On Monday the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2021, Chet Holmgren, announced he'd be playing next season in Spokane. Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander discuss whether or not this will move Gonzaga to No. 1 in the preseason rankings, and give insight into Holmgren's unique game/build and how he'll play alongside Drew Timme ... if Timme does indeed return for his junior season.

🚨Tommy Lloyd is the next coach at Arizona, Wes Miller is the next coach at Cincinnati (Emergency Pod 04/14)

Two big news drops hit Wednesday, prompting an emergency pod, The final two major-conference jobs have filled. We open with Tommy Lloyd leaving Gonzaga to take over Arizona, and all the details from behind the scenes in the past week that led to this moment. Then, at the 22-minute mark, Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander share their thoughts on Wes Miller leaving UNC Greensboro after 10 seasons to be the next coach at Cincinnati. The podcast's final few minutes touch on the power-conference hiring from the past month-or-so that GP and Norlander each think will go down as the best one years from now.

Conference horse trading

Great pod(and not only because the guys read my previous review that questioned GP’s commitment to premarital sex). I genuinely feel like I understand the structure of the NCAA and the tourney better from listening to these two.

My contribution to mailbag questions: Taking football out of it, as college hoops czars what conference realignment moves would you make? A few of my ideas:
- Midwestern Big East schools plus ND, Dayton and SLU make their own conference
-Big East picks up BC Rutgers and Cuse(maybe Temple too?)
- ACC and Big Ten swap Louisville and Pitt for Maryland
-Gonzaga goes independent and becomes ND of college hoops

Cal Hoops

Hi Guys,
What do the Cal Golden Bears need to do to be relevant again? Should they try to follow the model Cuonzo used (seems unlikely for several reasons ie Rabb being local, jaylen caring about academics) or hope Fox can get things going? (I’m not as anti-Fox as some Cal fans since year 1 was solid and this year was weird due to covid). Just curious on your thoughts.
Thanks for all the great work!
