Hieronymous Balthazar Ophelia Stabman is an onion-armored human male fighter that fled his homeland after being cursed by a talking. . .fish? The Chronologist Initiates make their way back to the Chronologist Union HQ, debriefing Broadbarrow on the book-turned-life-sucking-energy-construct. They decide to confront the Amberdune Books peddlers, heading to the Highbrand neighborhood. After a mostly friendly chat with one of the book salespeople, the gang goes back to the HQ to rest for the day but runs into a small problem. . .

The Initiates pay a visit to the Amberdune Books group home down in Umbergate, making sure to definitely get their point across that they just want an actually really real book. After a bit of a scuffle, the jackalweres' booksellers' leader, Korvala, makes an appearance to cool everything down and broker a deal. Snarl, Stabman, and Xyfiel then head back to the CU HQ but encounter one more minor annoyance on the way.

After acquiring three gingwatzim copies of intriguing books, and delegating the task of copying them to some Chronologist scribes, the Rank 2 Initiates take a beat to figure out what to do in their free time. After a hearty continental breakfast, though sadly sans milk, they decide to run some errands and do some research. Snarl and Xyfiel peruse curious books, though not as directly related to their topics of interest as they'd hoped. Stabman goes shopping and then suddenly remembers he knows someone famous.

Stabman casually meets up with one of the most powerful people in the region to see if he can't lift a demonic curse on one of the most prolific scholars of the time. Perfectly normal things. Meanwhile, Xyfiel and Snarl head back to CU HQ to await Stabman's return and check in on the scribes' progress copying the gingwatzim books. Stabman indeed returns with Brosh and PROTEIN, and everybody shares a hearty meal. Snarl and Xyfiel sneak upstairs to find out what is happening with Fordson.
