Dark Energy? Hormones? Hard to Tell Sometimes.
Dark Energy, or Hormones. Hard to Tell Sometimes.
Song: Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves. I’ve always liked her a bunch, in fact at one of the lowest points in my life I was sitting in a lawn chair at a dusty music festival with my dog Electra, and she came out on stage and there were like 4 other people in the audience, she was maybe the first band, and she sang “ Woke up on the wrong side of rock bottom,” and my life was forever changed, I had a string, a thread, of someone who could feel where I was at, and had climbed their way back to the other side.
Deeper Well, "Saying goodbye to people who are wasting my time."
Showing my work: Writing-wise, I started loading my presentation into Canva, the Collaborative Pelvic Exam that I’m sharing at ATM conf in May. After I present, I’ll record that onto Vimeo and host on the back page of my website, so if you can’t attend and that topic has punch for you, join my newsletter and that will let you know when it goes live.
What she said: Eleanor shares how much weaning ate her lunch, caused a depressive episode, and what she did about it.
Wrap-up: As always, you know you best. Get your learn on from me and other teacher guides and community, and make the best decisions for you.
Hopefully Helping,
Rowan

Fast Car, "It's not about a car."
Song: Fast Car which Tracy remarked, "It's not about a car." which I remember but can't find a citation.
Showing my work: Continued to tweak and work over the Birth Prep Prenatal offering.
What on your mind, fears, what don’t you understand ex newborn medications
Pelvic floor or personal anatomy specifics. Ex do you habitually always cross your legs one way? How has that affected your body balance?
VBAC Assessment (hit this sooner rather than later)
link to book (H-town peeps or virtual)
Ancestor Shrine: I tend to use altar and shrine interchangeably, and while they aren’t exactly the same, for me it’s close enough.
Growing up in El Paso, Ofrendas were a thing, and part of daily life both around 11/2 and all year around
I've been super blessed with many teachers, and those who taught me the most about ancestor work have been
Elena Avila, Woman Who Glows in the Dark, a curandera from my hometown.
My Dutch grandmother Annekae, a professional wise woman.
Afua Hassan,
And FF (in the Ifa tradition.)
I have a couple of altars in my spaces, in my workspace I have invited my grandmother to be with me and guide me. I also realized I had a low-key altar to Afua, and I wanted to snaz it up.
A song that inspired me to dive deeper into understanding domestic violence and my privilege, and somehow connected me to Afua, and wanting to show up for pregnant people who may be low-resourced and in harm's way.
A birth revolution and body autonomy are how I choose to represent, with Mama Afua on my mind.
Wrap-up:
As always, you know you best. Get your learn on from me and other teacher guides and community, and make the best decisions for you.
Hopefully Helping,
Rowan

Two Tells: When a Community-Based Birth Isn't Gonna Happen Here
Two Tells: When a Community-Based Birth Isn't Gonna Happen Here
Song: Been Listening to John Mayor's "Sob Rock" on repeat. Who do you think he wrote all those songs about?
Show your work:
This week I added more 411 to my collaborative pelvic exams presentation, focused on the need for safety and consent so that the tissues will be optimally responsive.
Some content was inspired by talking to Ellen Heed, some was inspired by the Spinning Babies Parent Educator training that I hosted in H-Town.
Love Letter is going out this week, opt in here.
Planner updates:
I’ve been using the Laurel Denise and Passion Planner, slowly migrating into the LD as I grieve all the artwork and groovy stickers that went into the Passion Planner. I’ve temporarily moved into a backpack (my sister's Vera Bradly Black quilted with cherry lining, thank you very much.)
My sister, who is an undated planner hater, just caved and bought the mini undated planner that has just been released and will be writing them with her fancy pens, but no stickers lol
From a chat I had with Ellen Heed:
2 “tells” that a baby doesn’t want to be born in a community setting like a birth center or homebirth, that the baby would be better served born in a more medical environment.
Wrap-up:
As always, you know you best. Get your learn on from me and other teacher guides and community, and make the best decisions for you.

AfterBirth 9/28/21 When Enough is Enough and its TIME TO LEAVE
When Enough is Enough and its TIME TO LEAVE.
Big Bold Trigger Warning
One of our peeps is in a bad scene, so this episode contains domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and in general a feeling of being scared for our girl and her kids. It's enough that Katelin, our current host, asked me (Rowan) to get this up ASAP.
So here you go.
