06 | Shift in Retail: Pano Anthos, Sr. VP, XRC Labs

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced consumers to adjust to a new normal. Demand for options like curbside pick-up and online ordering have skyrocketed. How are retailers adapting to these new consumer behaviors? Learn more on today’s episode as we sit down with Pano Anthos, founder of XRC Labs, a retail focused accelerator, to discuss the pandemic’s impact on the retail industry.

    From the episode:
"Grocers have been sitting on frequent shopper data for 25 years and have done almost nothing with it. I've shopped whether it was a Whole Foods or a Kroger or wherever, a Wegmans, and if I buy meat, no one has ever emailed me six months later or three months later saying, "Hey, you know that meat you bought? It's on sale again." No one ever has done that, which is really basic marketing. But again, the grocers have never been incentivized to do it, because they're not paid to sell me more meat. They're paid to sell more meat of the variety that a brand is promoting."

Guest: Pano Anthos, Sr. VP, XRC Labs

    05 | AR/VR/XR: Tom Mainelli, IDC

Think Augmented, Virtual, and Extended Reality is just for gamers? Think again. In this episode, Tom Mainelli, Group VP Consumer and Device Research at International Data Corporation (IDC), discusses how AR/VR/XR technologies are poised to disrupt processes in a wide variety of industries and use cases.

From simply re-imagining conference calls to completely upending knowledge transfer in manufacturing, AR/VR/XR technologies can literally show us a whole new world.

    From the episode:
“I heard a stat once...that engineers at this large company spent a third of their time trying to track down blueprints for machines that were built 20 years ago. And if you can associate a digital blueprint to a device or to a machine when it's built, and whether it's five years from now or 10 years from now, when you walk up to it, that becomes available to someone in AR, you've just saved a huge amount of time.”

Guest: Tom Mainelli, Group VP, Consumer and Device Research, IDC

04 | Computer Vision: Francis Bitonti & Les Karpas, LexSet

Computer Vision (CV) has become a buzz worthy term in commerce, but have you ever wondered how we actually teach computers to “see?” There is a lot more to it than you might think. In this episode, hear from the founders of LexSet about how “training data as a service” is significantly cutting down on the time and manpower necessary to feed high-performance AI models the high-quality image data they need.

    From the episode:
"Think about how much innovation is being stifled because people are having to collect datasets. If you're working at Google and you want to test a new model, you have to go out and get a new data set just to test an idea. You don't even have an ability to quickly prototype and iterate without going to your boss and saying, hey, I need $100,000 budget just to test this crazy idea I had this morning. We're going to really change the whole behavior of the industry and make it a lot easier to rapidly test ideas and then refine them into production"

Guests: Francis Bitonti, Founder & CEO and Les Karpas, Founder & President, Lexset
