OstrowTalk Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC Online Programs

In this latest episode of Ostrow Talk, we present a special project that was created by several students from our Online Community Oral Health Program. These students have worked together to create a unique Environmental Awareness Project/Podcast as part of their COH 704: Environmental Health Sciences Course which is taught by our Program Director, Dr. Mina Habibian. This is a great example of the types of collaborative projects that students can expect to engage in while enrolled in one of our online programs.

In this episode of Ostrow Talk, Sheiva Hodjati, a pre-dental student at USC currently studying Gerontology at the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology sits down with Dr. Mehdi Mohammadi, Clinical Associate Professor at Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry and Clinical Director of the USC/Union Rescue Mission to discuss how he first became interested in studying and eventually teaching in our Online  Geriatric Dentistry Program and the various ways in which Geriatric Dentistry intersects with Public Health.

In this episode of OstrowTalk, professors Linda Brookman and Joyce Sumi from our Community Oral Health Program discuss Tele-Dentistry and how the pandemic has taught us new virtual ways for dentists and dental professionals to interact with their patients. Some topics discussed include: How can patients visit their dentist without going into an actual dentist's office? What is an intraoral camera and how can it be used practically? What are some good resources to go to get started with setting up your office to offer Tele-Dentistry services?

Dr. Glenn Clark discusses the use of botulinum toxin in patients with persistent orofacial pain. This lecture is designed to familiarize dentists with the scientific evidence that underlies the use and abuse of Botulinum Toxin for orofacial pain disorders and motor disorders. Dr. Clark also discusses the various injection protocols and when they are indicated.

In this episode of OstrowTalk, Dr. Sepideh Khosropanah (Master in Community Oral Health) interviews Dr. Mehdi Mohammadi (Master in Geriatric Dentistry, and Clinical Assistant Professor at Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, Section Chair, Community Outreach Programs) about dental care in patients with high blood pressure.
