    The Patriarchy Trap

    The Patriarchy Trap

“... until the most recent past, [those] historians have been men and what they have recorded is what men have done and experienced and found significant. They have called this history and claimed it universally. What women have done and experienced has been left unrecorded, neglected, and ignored in interpretation.”
    - Gerda Lerner, The Creation of Patriarchy
In this 8th episode, the MC’s explore their definitions of “History” and the place women may or may not hold in it.
“Things” to Think About From This Episode:
As recently as 2015, twenty (20) countries reported an illiteracy rate for women of 50% or more. How could a woman appeal the narrative if she/they doesn’t even get to participate in it? We have all been ingrained in this system. We all are living it. We are perpetuating it. If we do not examine what has happened before and understand our contributions today, then we're inclined to continue that same cycle. Intergenerational trauma.  The ingrained doctrine that the men dictate how women behave, which is then reinforced by the mothers. This is how they survived. Now is the time where women are at a pivotal point in their history to start taking some of this power back. They can push past The [Patriarchal] Gatekeepers by sharing their stories.  How do you keep going, when you're tired? How do we keep holding each other and going forward? For full transcript, go here: https://tinyurl.com/ATT-PodEp8

    Brainstorming the Patriarchy

    Brainstorming the Patriarchy

In this 7th episode, the MC’s brainstorm how we can break up the giant conversation of understanding the patriarchy. We settle into a few overarching topics that make sense to us and we absolutely want you, the listener, to think about these and additional topics to add into the mix.
The first topics we’ve come up with will be:
Attempting to define what the patriarchy is and how it’s the foundation every other system is built uponTrying to understand who we are individually, within a system that was not built for usLearning to chart a course through the B.S. towards becoming what we are trying to create, andThe constant battle for autonomy and personal agency. “Things” to Think About From This Episode:
Our working definition of the “Patriarchy” A system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it. When the system wasn’t built for you, how do you know which pieces of yourself are important to you vs important to other people’s standards? What happens when you work so hard to belong, that you lose who you are?Did you ever think about the “Suffering” of the Suffrage movement? When do we get to stop fighting and creating something new and just rest?“You will not be saved! No one is coming to save you. You must step up!”You have to find your Why if you hope to transcend the confines of the patriarchy. For full transcript, go here: https://tinyurl.com/ATTepisode7

Shifting Into Joy: Silly Episode #!

Shifting Into Joy: Silly Episode #!

The key to moving beyond the hard sh*t is giving yourself permission to laugh. As we emerge from our 2-year chrysalis of isolation and anxiety, we’re ready to wrap our wings around joy, occasional silliness and people… IRL!
In this laughter-filled 6th episode, the MC’s explore ways joy and appreciation create massive energy shifts within ourselves and our communities. When we choose to embrace The Good, we reframe the limiting labels we’ve placed on ourselves and create more spaciousness for fun, laughter, contemplation and connectivity.
“Things” to Think About From This Episode:
How have you been able to shift into a joyful place when moving through difficult transitions?  The antidote to the stress is listening to our own bodies and seeing what has been gifted to us. Invite the serotonin in. What are your practices for embracing the serotonin?             Some MC suggestions:
Puppies Talking animals Reality tv-shows Rainbow sparkling magic chimesCockfighting explanations! When you shed or reframe labels and limiting messages, you clear the path to show up authentically, congruently, and in aligned service, i.e your Soulscape. Do you know who Rico Suave is? Special Shout Out to Ann Gonzales at Savvy Pioneer for getting Mel back on Track!

Thank You For Being A Friend

Thank You For Being A Friend

How do you learn how to be a friend when the media only shows catty women, who fall apart over silliness? We have to get beyond the poor character development of movies and tv shows like “And Just Like That” if we want to develop actual friendships.
In this 5th episode, the MC’s go maybe a little too deep, into the sad portrayal of female friendships shown on the Sex and the City reboot and discuss the challenges of overcoming the perceived normal, when it comes to true relationship building. We’re still learning and growing because wisdom really does come with age, so listen in.
“Things” to Think About From This Episode:
For women of a certain age, seeing ourselves represented on screen was a big deal and it shaped how we viewed ourselves in relation to other women, for better or for worse. The representation of female friendships is getting better but still pretty lacking, especially when tv characters never seem to grow up.Who are these ridiculous women on tv and why can’t they seem to get their sh*t together? As we evolve and grow,  our relationships and the way we show with others changes as well, and it’s scary. So how can we learn to be fearless and vulnerable at the same time?Friendships play a powerful role in our individual transformations, so how do we know who to keep around and who to let go of?When your cups empty, so is your ability to support the friends you need the most. How do we stay mindful of how full our cup is or know when we need help replenishing it?*************
