Mortals and Portals - Pathfinder 2e Homebrew Actual Play

Mortals and Portals is an original PF2e adventure set in Keldora, a solar system of seven unique planets. Travel between planets is made possible by ancient and mysterious landmarks called nodes. Whenever two nodes are aligned, a portal is created to the adjacent planet! Our story begins with four strangers, each from a different planet, that have been transported to an unknown node under curious circumstances. They soon find each other and discover they are in a hostile land and must work together to escape. Of course, this is only the beginning for our heroes as fate united them to face even greater dangers that threaten the entire system!
Great Homebrew Podcast

This show is absolutely amazing. The music and sound effects just push it over the top. It is so hard to find a homebrew, especially one with a story that makes me exited to find out what’s coming next. Thank you so much for doing this, GM Zach, and all of Digbys crew. By the way I don’t think there is any plot armor, and that anybody who thinks that is just looking for the bad.
Even my younger brothers love it

I love this show, and my younger brothers are always asking me to tell them bedtime stories, so I decided to tell them the plot to Mortals and Portals (with a few adjustments here and there) I did rename everyone so that they could remember the characters better, so I’ll tell you their names and you figure out who’s who. Buff guy, lizard guy, fish guy, and blind guy. (And more recently cat robot) And even though they didn’t really care about Digsby’s death, they always laugh at the absurd battles (mainly Waltz battling people with unconventional objects) my little brothers are always asking me to continue the story because they want to know what happens next, and I always have to answer “me too” I love what you guys are doing and it’s very obvious you love doing it (even when Zach gets a little exasperated at everyone’s shenanigans) And I love to tell my youngest brother that one of the guys that puts together the story is named Zach because you two are name twins and he likes to think he’ll be able to make stories like you. I guess you can tell people now that a 5 year old admires you Zach. Anyways, I love the rest of the crew too, keep putting smiles on people’s faces. <3
Player hate

Man the GM really hates one of the players
Perfect Timing

I just finished catching up on this sho on the 11th, and the next season starts on the 14th. I am already incredibly excited, this show is the epitome of what I look for in an actual play.
Plot Armor
05/03/2024
I was enjoying the show pretty well until the plot armor episode. I’ll leave it at that to avoid spoilers. All I can say is that the “Roll… Roll again… Roll yet again… Ok, One more roll…” routine pretty much stripped the show of dramatic tension for me. I’m not a purist, and I understand and support a little nudging of the odds for entertainment value, but for me it seemed labored and desperate, and I felt deflated by the whole process.
Great stuff

These fellas are absolutely fantastic. Fun home brew world, great GM and characters, absolutely amazing production value. Also they don’t spend 10 minutes every episode talking non game related nonsense like some podcasts do (great editing). Keep it up
Great crew on an epic adventure in a homebrew world

I admit, I was a bit skeptical about these four weirdos being collected by this balmy halfling orchardist. Bit too convenient. But from the first running gag (“That’ll be one silver”), I knew I found my crew. I can barely GM adventure paths (Quest for the Frozen Flame at present) and hearing the players play and especially the GM GM, these are the kind of sessions I dream of one day running. I do appreciate them keeping it PG for the most part as the kids (10, 7) love hearing the story play out. Ryu, Dax, Waltz, Jhuls, and Tuff are constantly making appearances in the stories they tell themselves. Pacing, music, story, play; all are top notch. Highly recommended!
Best homebrew actual play

These guys are great - well played characters, action, funny. The GM is an excellent storyteller and does a great job narrating the rolls. He builds tension really well, too. The world is well developed, I’m psyched to learn more about it.
Peak Actual Play.

Was browsing the PF2E subreddit and saw that these guys were just starting. Listened to their first two episodes and was immediately hooked and been a Mortal ever since. Consider supporting them on Patreon because they’re really the coolest dudes in the role-playing space. A Reddit comment reviewing the show said: “A really good litmus test for me is whether or not you could imagine that, if the power went out and they couldn't record, the game would continue because that's what they were there to do.” And yeah the show is great. Listen to it!
This is what you’ve been looking for

Mortals and Portals is the holy grail of TTRPG podcasts. With a wildly talented group of real friends who play like your sitting in at their Friday night session. The characters are deep and each feels alive and unique, the cast are all so invested in the story and so good at “yes and” each other that in only a handful of episodes you feel like you’ve been along for the ride for years! These guys are bound by the rules, they see the rules as a framework to build a story and my goodness can they build. I could go on and on about the world building, the flow of the story or quality of the production but I don’t want to spoil anything. Listen to the first few episodes and if you aren’t hooked than maybe TTRPG podcasts just aren’t for you. Because this is the epitome of well done. Thanks guys.
