124 episodes

The United States has become synonymous with empire and endless war, American troops sit in 70% of the world's countries, and yet, most Americans don't know that. The military is joined disproportionately by a 'warrior caste’ whom carry this enormous burden, making a less diverse force and ensuring most of society doesn't see their sacrifice. And American tax dollars, funding hundreds of billions in unnecessary spending on global hegemony, are robbed from the domestic needs of ordinary Americans. We aim to change that.

Join Danny, Henri, and Keagan, three leftist US military veterans, as they discuss how to turn the tide against endless war and repair the damage America has caused abroad.

Censorship, mind control, biological warfare, and the Korean War w/ Dr. Jeffrey Kaye – Ep 111

Censorship, mind control, biological warfare, and the Korean War w/ Dr. Jeffrey Kaye – Ep 111

For anyone who follows this podcast, it’s never a surprise when you hear the words “I don’t know.”  Not due to a gap in knowledge of any kind or the question being one of an odd variety, but because it simply lives behind this giant wall of silence called the U.S. classification system.  The Korean War has been over since 1953 and yet, we still don’t know the full extent of U.S. culpability in using biological warfare against North Korean / Chinese forces.  Censorship is a different matter.  For a country ostensibly on the side of “free speech”, the United States often uses censorship to shore up their narratives among the American people.

Dr. Jeffrey Kaye joins the podcast to discuss his most recent CounterPunch piece, “CIA, MKULTRA and the Cover-up of U.S. Germ Warfare in the Korean War.”   “In this article, CIA mind-control programs are linked to experiments on returning Korean War POWs. Also revealed is the extent to which CIA officials from Projects Bluebird, Artichoke and MKULTRA collaborated with U.S. biological warfare efforts, including the top secret “processing” of high-ranking POWs who confessed to U.S. use of biological weapons.”

Jeff Kaye is a highly respected psychologist in San Francisco and an expert on current torture and rendition techniques and developments. He writes on torture and other subjects for Firedoglake, Truthout, and most recently at CounterPunch.

Drone strike murders by Delta Force – Ep 110

Kyle Anzelone from Conflicts of Interest stops by to discuss a new report from the New York Times discussing how Delta Force members, working as part of a drone strike cell during the ISIS offensive in Syria, caused so many civilian casualties that their fellow strike cell compatriots (CIA, USAF Intelligence, State Dept) turned them in.  We also take a minute to discuss Conflicts of Interest.  Enjoy!!!

Kyle Anzalone is news editor of the Libertarian Institute, assistant editor of Antiwar.com and co-host of Conflicts of Interest with Will Porter.

Reign of Terror w/ Spencer Ackerman – Ep 109

Spencer Ackerman joins the podcast to discuss his new book “REIGN OF TERROR: How The 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump.”  We discuss the presence of war crimes in the post 9/11 era as features, not aberrations, of American foreign policy, the search for the “service” in military service, and America’s ongoing love affair with using military answers to solve political questions.  Enjoy!!!

Spencer Ackerman is a contributing editor at the Daily Beast. From 2017 to 2021, he was senior national security correspondent for The Daily Beast. He is the author of forthcoming REIGN OF TERROR: How The 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump. The former U.S. national security editor for the Guardian, Ackerman was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team reporting on Edward Snowden's surveillance revelations.

National Bird – Drone warfare w/ Lisa Ling – Ep 108

National Bird – Drone warfare w/ Lisa Ling – Ep 108

Today, Keagan and I will be talking with Lisa Ling, a former intel analyst and whistleblower who worked with drones.  She’s the one of the subjects of National Bird, the award winning documentary on former drone unit members that included Daniel Hale (the handsome fella gracing our episode thumbnail today) and several other drone whistleblowers.  Please do take a listen to an episode of Primary Sources Podcast, as Lisa, Keagan, Cian Westmoreland, and host Chip Gibbons discuss drone warfare in depth, along with a breakdown of the horrific drone strike that punctuated the U.S. departure from Afghanistan.

Lisa joined the military in 1991, serving as an army medic and nurse before transferring to the Air National Guard (ANG). In the Guard, she became a communications technician, working on various types of electronic equipment including DCGS (Distributed Common Ground System; the U.S. Air Force defines DCGS as its "primary intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination" system).

Besides her overseas deployments and prior years in the U.S. drone program, Lisa served with the 234th intelligence Squadron and 48th Intelligence Squadron at Beale Air Force Base from Oct 2007-Sep 2009. The 48th Intelligence Squadron provides communications and logistics maintenance for the DCGS.

She served more than six years on active duty and more than 15 years as both active and inactive National Guard.

She decided to speak out against the misuse of drones after traveling to Afghanistan and seeing for herself how what she participated in was not a war on terror, but a war of terror. She has spoken out against armed drones killing with inaccurate data, and the program's immense unchecked power around the world, writing for (and sometimes being featured in) the Los Angeles Times, the Daily Beast, on Cyberwar—Viceland, and ABC Australia.

Lisa is one of three protagonists from the U.S. drone program featured in the documentary film National Bird, directed by Sonia Kennebeck.

Foreign Policy

Many people feel that the ugliest dog race every four years is the pinnacle of democratic participation. Shows like FOH show everyone why foreign policy should not be disconnected from democracy and ethics. Foreign policy should not be a "business".

I’m shocked

I’m shocked that this man taught our young officers at West Point. We have to do better.

Acrave ,

High five

Bringing the though issues to the forefront of the consciousness of our military and government. Brilliant and well thought out conversations that we need to have more often and out in the open.
