HealthBeat Emory University: Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives

GAHE's president, Soniza Khan, will be giving a farewell speech as we wrap up the first season of HealthBeat. She will be diving into her experiences with healthcare and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory.  

Dr. Tony Nguyen, the Chief Medical Officer of the Division of Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (DHANES)  at the CDC, will be discussing the intersection between public health and medicine.   He is a subject matter expert (SME) clinical consultant for DHANES leadership and Science Advisor. He was also a brigade surgeon for the US Army and is currently a captain of the US Public Health Service. Dr. Nguyen was also a part of the 2014 Ebola response team in Sierra Leone. During this episode Dr. Nguyen dives into his journey of being a physician, his passion for public health, and how it has impacted his life.

Ilana Graetz, an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, will be discussing health information technology. Dr. Graetz has worked with Kaiser Permanente to determine how the EHR system impacted quality and access to care. Her research spans multiple aspects of health information technology, including data analytics, the role of electronic health records in care quality and coordination, and the design of app-based interventions to improve patient-provider communication, treatment adherence, and outcomes. 

Frederic Shaw, an adjunct professor in the health policy and management department of Rollins School of Public Health, will be discussing how law affects public health policy. He also delves into career advice for public health students.

Dessa Bergen-Cico, professor of public health at Syracuse University, will be discussing the war on drugs, cannabis use, psychedelic assisted therapy, mindfulness based practices, and the use of passive technology to monitor stress responses to addiction.

Daniele Fallin, the newly appointed Dean of Rollins School of Public Health, will be discussing the different factors that affect mental health along with the stigma that surrounds it.
