How to Set Healthy Intentions Without Falling Into the Resolution Trap w/ Dr. Michelle May

How to Set Healthy Intentions Without Falling Into the Resolution Trap w/ Dr. Michelle May

    Happy New Year!
Now what kind of health coach would I be if I didn't have an episode on New Year resolutions? It is practically part of the Health Coaches Creed to address this topic each year.
My guest for this episode is Dr. Michelle May, the founder of Am I Hungry and author of “Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat.” (Shameless plus - Pro listeners will know that this is the curriculum that I use for my Happy Healthy You Mindful Eating group, which is starting a new class in January.)
In this episode, I ask Michelle about the revealing truth about the Biggest Loser - and you can read the research here: https://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-weight-loss/lessons-from-the-biggest-loser
In early January, Michelle is offering a complimentary 90-minute masterclass called The Anti-Resolution Plan: How to Eat with Ease. You’ll learn the 3 stages of transformation to break free from toxic diet culture so you can eat what you love without guilt.
Michelle is known for her been-there teaching style, so you don’t want to miss this event! It will be well worth your time!
Learn more and register at https://amihungry.com/antiresolutionplan.
In this episode, we’re talking about a mindful twist on new year resolutions, and some upcoming opportunities Dr. May has up her sleeve.   Are you ready to solve everything? Let’s get into it!

Welcome back to Heather Solves Everything, the show where I take credit for solving your problems by introducing you to other people who are smarter and more popular than me. My guest for this episode is Rachel Lavin. She’s the author of the Doughnut Diaries, in which she shares the story of four decades of struggling to connect to her self worth. You might be able to relate to her experience of going from one restrictive diet to another, gaining and losing weight for years, and feeling betrayed by her body. She’s also a certified personal trainer and certified health coach! I think you’re going to love this episode. Are you ready to solve everything? Let’s get into it!

12 Minutes to change how you see thanksgiving

12 Minutes to change how you see thanksgiving

This is a back-by-demand re-posted episode from last year - still great, just like Thanksgiving leftovers!

It’s Thanksgiving week! And that means we’re officially in a time of year that I like to call Eating Season.

And here at Heather Solves Everything, all of my coaching calls this week have been about intuitive eating, and how to get through the holidays without losing control around food.

So I decided to put together a special episode just about that, and to offer up five things to think about as you approach the Thanksgiving table.

The point of these five tips is to help you turn down the urgency and turn up the trust during the holidays. I want you to enjoy the scents and flavors of the season with your arms and hearts open wide, not feeling like you can only enjoy them within a controlled setting, or that there are some foods that you can’t have, or that you have to do some kind of penance for eating them. I hope that your Thanksgiving is full of blessings, including a feeling of partnership with yourself so you can relax, exhale, connect with your body, and make your first bite the best one.

Intuitive eating is something that takes some time to learn and master, so don’t expect yourself to flip a switch and undo a lifetime of learned food rituals and self talk. And, if you’d like to learn more about intuitive eating, I’ll be offering a class that begins in January. It’s called Am I Hungry, and all of the tips today came from the class. I’ll be sharing more information about it on my website, HeatherSolvesEverything.com.

A Weight-Neutral Approach to Mindful Eating for Kids

A Weight-Neutral Approach to Mindful Eating for Kids

In this episode, we’re solving the minefield that is talking to your kids about healthy eating, as well as modeling mindfulness in a weight-neutral environment focused on health, not body size.
My guest is Dr. Sheila Carroll, and we talk about the balancing act of encouraging healthy foods while not restricting others, fostering autonomy and confidence in our kids, and helping them stay out of diet culture. I hope you love it!

Mindful Eating w/ an Eating Disorder - Guest Becca Ferguson, LPC

Mindful Eating w/ an Eating Disorder - Guest Becca Ferguson, LPC

Hey, it’s Heather! My guest for this episode is Becca Ferguson, a Licensed Professional Counselor and also a really fun person to talk to. We get into the topic of mindful eating with an eating disorder in this episode. If you’ve been in those shoes, you know how it is to realize that eating food is a simple process, but still be trapped in thoughts and fears that prevent you from doing it. Why can’t we just “get over” our eating disorder and eat like a normal person? What even IS normal? Answers to that and more are coming up.
