The Guest John Archibald Sinclair, 3rd Viscount Thurso, known as John Thurso, is a Scottish businessman, Liberal Democrat politician, and hereditary peer. Born in 1953, he was educated at Eton College and spent much of his early career in the tourism and hospitality industry, managing prominent hotels and serving as CEO of the Champneys Group. Thurso first entered Parliament in 1995 as a hereditary peer in the House of Lords, serving until the House of Lords Act 1999 removed most hereditary peers. In 2001, he was elected as the MP for Caithness, Sutherland, and Easter Ross, a seat he held until 2015. During his time in the House of Commons, he served as chair of the Finance and Services Committee. After losing his seat in 2015, he returned to the House of Lords in 2016 and later became Lord Lieutenant of Caithness. He has also chaired VisitScotland since 2016 and holds leadership roles in tourism and hospitality organisations and now holds the President role at the Institute of Hospitality.
