Dive into the cutting-edge world of social robotics with our panel discussion, "How to Raise a Robot." This engaging conversation introduces students to the exciting field of robotics and the intricate dynamics of human-robot interaction. Featuring insights from Dr. Thilina Lalitharatne, a leading expert in brain-machine interfaces and soft robotics, and Mr. Darren Burchall, an innovative educator using robots to transform classrooms, this episode explores the journey of creating robots that not only perform tasks but also interact with emotional intelligence. From the complexities of designing robots that mimic human behaviour to real-world applications in healthcare and education, our panellists break down the challenges and opportunities of raising robots to coexist meaningfully with humans. Whether you're a student, educator, or simply curious about the future of robotics, this episode will inspire and inform your understanding of how robots are becoming an integral part of our lives.
This session was the first panel from The LinkUp, a virtual conference for girls and women in STEM. The theme was 'to see it is to be it' as I wanted to show girls positive role models in their dream fields. This way, they can see that their dreams are possible and that there is more to their favourite subjects than what is in the textbook. Stay tuned for the rest of the panels!
