Cancer’s Impact on Loved Ones: My Story

Cancer’s Impact on Loved Ones: My Story

In this season finale I asked my best friend, Sierra, to interview me on my experience during my mom's cancer journey. My mom was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in July 2022 and I dropped everything to move home to Bermuda to be with her and the family during this time.
As we begin a new year, my mom rings the end of treatment bell and I pause to reflect on the journey we wen't through to get to this moment. This is a story of heart ache, hope and how powerful a positive mind set is.

Having an alcoholic partner episode

Recently, I randomly found a 2020 episode about having an alcoholic partner. I have never listened to this show but was having a melancholy evening thinking about my recent decision to leave my alcoholic partner. We had been in a relationship for 6 years and I have slowly been disentangling myself from him for 5 months. About a month a ago I decided to cut off all contact due to the mental health effects I was experiencing whilst trying to maintain a friendship with him to help him cope. I found this episode so helpful. I was feeling alone and ashamed of how long it took me to wake up and ashamed that I could not help him anymore. I understand now; I could never help him. My friends and family have given good advice that I never listened too until recently. I could really identify with this man’s story and his experience which sounds so much like mine. Thank you for sharing this. I will continue to listen to your pod cast and am glad I discovered it.

Tough conversation yet necessary

Tough story about the experience of Bisi’s coming out in his home of Nigeria. As he mentioned that brining awareness to the situation there helps, but also awareness and action in your home country where prejudice also exists to help eliminate these issues.
