Educational and Thoughtful

I appreciate this podcast so much because I am trying to learn more about classical music. I like that they actually play the music and then discuss it. They also choose very interesting pieces, not just the big hits.
Great for new and old fans of classical music

John and the various co-hosts do a great job introducing and presenting music in a way that is completely accessible to newcomers while still providing analytical nuance, nuggets of information, and introductions to less well-known composers and works that keep even life-long fans of classical music like me engaged and entertained. (Thanks Mom, for all of those old Readers Digest LP classical collections). A perfect balance of entertainment and education with the music of the centuries serving as the soundtrack!
Great Podcast

A much needed podcast

I love classical music and can not understand most of my friends who just don’t get it! The presentation of the music makes it more accessible as an introduction and provides a deeper dive for those of us with more experience. As a retired music educator, I appreciate this effort!
Fantastic insights, great podcast

I would give this a full five stars if the background music (which changes frequently and I personally find overly distracting from the otherwise beautiful depth and flow of these guys’ conversations) could be limited to JUST musical examples relevant to whatever person/composition they are actively discussing
Mmm good show

I like show, but needs obscure composers and also some music that tell stories. Anywho, good show. - sugar cat guy 89

Very good summary of the composer’s life! I enjoyed the show and would like to hear an analysis of the symphonies, especially the second.
Really enjoy this podcast!

After listening to Apple Music Classical’s “The Story of Classical,” I wanted to find a podcast that breaks down and comments on classical music. I found this show and love it. As someone who played bass trombone in high school, I appreciate John’s insights from being a tuba player. I especially liked the Pini di Roma episode. It’s been one of my favorite pieces since seeing it in Fantasia 2000 as a kid (I had no idea Disney cut the second movement!) and later in high school when I saw the Fountain City Brass Band play the last movement. But, I had no idea what connection it had to actual pine trees of Rome, so it was great to learn about the back story and hear the kids’ song!
