The *(Relate)able Podcast: Carnival - An Expression Of Freedom

The *(Relate)able Podcast: Carnival - An Expression Of Freedom

    Episode 12
It's Carnival Season, everyone! In February, all three hosts participated in carnival celebrations from different islands. Therefore, we found it appropriate to engage in a discussion with one of Saint Lucia’s Cultural Icons, Dr. Adrian Augier, regarding the evolution of carnival from its traditional roots towards a more commercialized direction. We explore how both aspects coexist, each depending on the other for survival, while striving to maintain the authentic essence of what carnival signifies to us.
This week, Under The Mango Tree returns, transporting you to Martinique carnival, where you can immerse yourself in the chants of "Libérez le siwo" (Liberate the Siwo) and the rhythmic drumbeats that evoke a deep sense of nostalgia and spiritual connection to our ancestors.

    The *(Relate)able Podcast: Colorism Roundtable

    The *(Relate)able Podcast: Colorism Roundtable

This week on The *(Relate)able Podcast we attempt our first roundtable on the topic of Colorism (yikes)! There’s so much to unpack with this topic, however we thought it wasn’t really our place to speak on something so important which may not have affected us three ladies in a negative way; so, we invited three friends Taribba, Emma, and Ashlee (See their Instagram profiles / website below) to fill us in on how they may have been affected. There was so much to talk about, and so little time so watch this space as we may need to run part two.
**Disclaimer if you are triggered by this topic then we understand if you choose to skip this week, we love you and we care that you feel safe with us so it’s arite!
There’s no UTMT this week, however we have an announcement… So, your favorite *(Relate)able hosts will be teaming up with one of our favorite sponsors LesBohemes on this year’s retreat in Dominica from 27th October to 3rd November!!! Remember the early bird special ends on March 31st so please book early to save some cash! Lastly, remember to use the code “RELATABLE” for your 20% discount!

Soribell3 ,

Kismet!

These women! Have never physically met Fiona, but was honored to have her as a guest on our virtual Black History celebration at the college. She brought it! And now this! What a meaningful collaborative collective of real Black love and joy. Listening to y’all has amplified the importance of hailing each other up as Black women. Your stories and experiences have mentally taken me from Brooklyn back to London in less than an hour. Love our Caribbean roots that continue to merge our lives. Keep them coming!
Hugs from abroad,
Soribel
