The Daily Dave - Podcasting Tips - Two Things Interview Podcasters are Doing That Frustrates New Guests - ReThink Your Strategy



Ok, so in a pre-interview of a guest for my Living The Next Chapter Podcast I met with a wonderful person that has had the worst experiences as a podcast guest. Podcasters, if you are doing the following two things with your guests, you need to stop - or - be more transparent as to your intentions and your process when dealing with guests - the way some podcasters are acting is making the rest of us look bad - so please stop!

So not bait and switch your potential guest - this person I mentioned was invited onto a podcast only for the podcaster to use this opportunity to try to sell their course, membership, mastermind etc. A Sales Funnel disguised as a podcast interview is classless, tacky and disturbing - don't muddy the water - please stop!

The second thing to stop doing is having two tier interactions with your guests - if you charge some of your guests and don't charge others, do not hold a guest's podcast release date for ransom and demand payment to bump them up the list so they can share their episode.

Whoever taught you to do these tactics has led you astray.

This kind woman was totally discouraged by your actions as an interview podcaster.

Thankfully, I was able to meet her on her last attempt at being on a podcast and I will make sure that she has a great episode, that she has me supporting her before, during and after the podcast and that I will continue to be there for her as a guest into the future.

A sales funnel is a sales funnel - a podcast interview is a podcast interview - please do not confuse the two!

What gives you the Audacity to Podcast? Audacity! Audacity gives you a great free tool to record your audio first podcast. Forget the expense monthly digital workstations that charge you for tools that you will NEVER need - free is not a bad idea - I love free!

We discuss 7 things to leverage Audacity to Podcast better.

- Create a Master File for your podcast that includes all your elements to create your next episode - don't start with a black screen!

- Record yourself locally when doing over the internet interviews - that way you have an uncompressed audio file of your mic straight into your computer

- When recording with your guest, record locally on your computer in Audacity and minimize Audacity to show just the recording timer/clock - this will help you to not loose track of time

- Use Macro Manager to assemble repeatable tracks into a one click option - give yourself a break

- Use a standard File Naming Convention to organize your episodes

- Monitor your Recording level within Audacity - Green is good - Yellow is caution and Red is woah there, you're way too hot for podcasting!

- Set your export settings and metadata

What would you do if your podcast stats just (POOF!) vanished? Would you stop podcasting?


At the end of the day, connecting with your audience and making a positive impact on their lives is what truly matters.So, how can you gain valuable audience feedback beyond just download statistics? Here are some ideas:


Encourage listener interactions: At the end of each episode, prompt your listeners to share their thoughts, questions, or stories related to the topic. Provide an email address or social media handle where they can reach out.
Conduct listener surveys: Periodically send out surveys to gather feedback on what your audience enjoys, what they'd like to see more of, and how the podcast has impacted their lives.
