#23 - To be embodied is to be curious about ourselves (2/2)

#23 - To be embodied is to be curious about ourselves (2/2)

We wrap up our conversation with Elia (wildwonderwellness.com) by digging a little deeper into embodiment - how she views and practices embodiment, and ways she guides her clients, who are helping professionals themselves, into embodied presence. A core part of social work is advocacy, and we listened in awe as Elia shared her journey towards embodying advocacy with compassionate lens.

    #22 - Pause — it's the key to connection (1/2)

    #22 - Pause — it's the key to connection (1/2)

We are thrilled to invite a fellow social worker/body-based coach Elia (www.wildwonderwellness.com) onto the show! In this 2 part series, we did what we do naturally as social workers: reflect on everything in life :D

We chat with Elia on the expectation of being a fixer/problem solver that comes with the profession and the challenges that social workers face in drawing boundaries at work. When we bring this conversation back to our body, we realise that many social workers / helping professionals may be stuck living in our heads. We envisioned what social work and helping professions could look like if we choose to take intentional pauses to shift our attention into our bodies, bringing first and foremost, ourselves back into wholeness.

Other highlights in this episode include:

    - The deep use of self in this profession

    - The strength we carry that empowers our clients can come from our own history of pain

#21 - A movement practice to come out of fight or flight

#21 - A movement practice to come out of fight or flight

This episode is different from the rest. We thought it would be nice to disengage from the act of thinking, discussing and reflecting that is usually offered in previous episodes. De-attaching ourselves from activities that involves our minds can possibly be useful in times when we may find ourselves overwhelmed with what is going on in it. We offer a short embodiment practice to support you in times when you may find yourself in a fight or flight state. Feel free to take this practice in ways that would support you.

May your mind be tamed, your body be free. May you arrive and feel alive.

#20 - "Nobody knows what brings ease, stability, and care for my body, better than I do." (2/2)

#20 - "Nobody knows what brings ease, stability, and care for my body, better than I do." (2/2)

We enter into a flurry of thoughts and opinions in this 2nd part of our conversation with Leigh Khoo! Taking a stab at trauma informed yoga, we chat about how trauma shows up in yoga classes and how we can all be more aware and informed about trauma when we share our yoga practices together.

Much of trauma live as imprints in our body — our muscle tone, breath patterns, our emotional reactions to certain body postures, and capacities to arrive in the present moment, just to name a few. With that context, there is no doubt that trauma will show up in yoga classes. Some of the highlights in this episode include:

The need for control is the only way to feel safe when we are carrying trauma, and why that makes surrendering so hard
Offer invitations for inquiry instead of giving hard instructions and demands
Hold spaces for people to feel, and let them know that if they do not feel, that's okay too. Our practice does not determine our worth.
Breath attuned practice vs. breath embodied practice
Taking full ownership and responsibility over my Yoga practice, and the importance of a self practice

#19 - a daily remembering of our inner goodness (1/2)

#19 - a daily remembering of our inner goodness (1/2)

"I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening — a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation." - Peter Levine

We enter into our most spiritual episode yet with our new guest, Leigh Khoo (www.living-yoga.co). In this 2-part intimate sharing of her lifelong relationship with Yoga that began at the age of 16, Leigh weaves in stories of curiosity, pain, love, and anger that led her onto a path home to herself and her inner divinity. As we listen to tales of her meeting yoga, falling out of the practice, then returning to, and deepening of the practice, the stories seem to mirror her relationship with her own pain and healing — non linear with twists and turns.

Yoga holds up a mirror to our relationship with ourselves, our bodies, and ultimately, our divinity, our inner goodness. Our hearts nourished, as we listened to Leigh's journey into her inner divinity, from a constant grasping at control to a yielding surrender to life and its grander mysteries.

May your heart be nourished by her sharing too. 💕
