I’ve really tried to get into this pod. Unfortunately, there’s just too little planning, focus, and structure to make it worth it. There are a few good episodes, but they don’t outnumber the difficult ones.
First - the speakers are hard-panned left/right - very annoying to listen to. It simply doesn’t create a natural environment, and for audio guys this seems like a very rookie mistake. Their audio levels are often unbalanced, and one host is often clipping as his levels are set too hot. Just doesn’t inspire trust.
Second - they ramble and head down rabbit holes often, which can make it difficult to follow. Stick to the subject, and use stories related to the topic to tell a story. Sidebars that go on for 20mins don’t lend to a good listening experience.
Third - they bring up different bits of equipment and plugins, but almost never provide audio examples of why they like them. They just talk about then; it’s an audio medium, give us some audio!
They span lots of different subjects across their seasons, but I don’t think they group/organize them well. There needs to be a reason to talk about stuff - maybe bringing on a guest from time to time would help solidify them as guides in the world of mixing and mastering.
