Troubled

Since the Assimilation of the Indigenous, which persists today, America has had a predatory preference for mass legal child abduction, trafficking, abuse, torture and murder. The "Toughlove" based 'Troubled Teen Industry' was spawned by "America's Most Dangerous Cult", Synanon, and funded by the US Govt. WHICH has been simultaneously funding unethical and involuntary social psychology experiments on children while publicly decrying their tactics as "brainwashing" and "torture". Still, this multi-billion dollar industry traumatizes hundreds of thousands a year leaving millions with CPTSD...

Incredible podcast on the Troubled Teen Industry

As a TTI survivor, I am blown away by all that Miranda and company are doing to change the conversation about the troubled teen industry. I appreciate the way they provide historical perspective on institutionalized abuse and LOVE them documenting protests/ calls to action in real time. The Provo episode conducted by Cadilina Devine was amazing. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like I’ve binged all the current content. From docs like Fix My Kid and The Last Stop to the EPIC online graphic novel, Joe vs Elan. I’m a regular fan of Pieces of Victory on YouTube. This is my favorite podcast format. I also highly recommend the Time Out Room (which is probably being suggested at the bottom of this page as well. I can’t believe the progress in some of these cases, and it’s thrilling to witness it in real time. Now and forever, #iseeyousurvivor

Some suggestions

I'm going to give this podcast five stars because I believe in its potential; however, as a survivor myself, I have a few suggestions that I think could benefit this podcast and the listeners. 1) The podcast needs to have better organization in bringing information on the troubled teen industry. Perhaps plan out episodes where you present history and metadata on TTI and have additional episodes where you interview survivors from each school to talk their stories. 2) Please stop bringing on the same people, and give the survivors who have never had a chance to talk about their stories an opportunity to do so. No disrespect, but please stop bringing on Liz Lanelli (multiple times). Liz is the same person that went on the Doctors TV show years ago; let's not forget that the Doctors TV was a Dr. Phill spinoff that promoted parents sending their children to TTI schools. If anything, Liz going on that show (for raising awareness, publicity, or whatever reason) could promote TTI schools that were considered good and not abusive, which is counterproductive to what we survivors are trying to do. We have to remember this industry is not regulated. To add to that, let's not forget that we are in the worst economic crisis since the depression and health crisis in 100 years. Many survivors seeking mental health help in the US are already a hard enough time being understood, with the DSM's epistemological problems. Yet affording mental health care is a different story (with this conventionalist mafia middle mand corporate profiting healthcare agenda going on). Please be mindful when promoting survivors' ways to find mental health resources that can fit their financial means. 3) I suggest you start a donation page; I would invest in this because I believe in the potential and purpose of this podcast.
Educational and Insightful

Troubled, created by survivors for survivors, hosts voices impacted by not only wilderness programs, but also by adult family members and peers who neglected and traumatized them long before their intakes. Meredith and Miranda establish historical and religious contexts surrounding wilderness programs, revealing their insidious origins as businesses funding cults, as well as relate to each other and to other survivors as they share their experiences. Troubled is a crucial and necessary podcast because survivors’ voices are crushed beneath the boots of “celebrities” like Dr. Phil who gleefully submits young people to literally glorified camps. The first episode alone will have you shuddering at the thought of these programs, and you will want to reach out and hug the people who come out on the other side. Please know that when talking about trauma, triggers will be present, so please make sure you are in a healthy space to listen, and please have self-care available throughout the episodes. Thank you so much, everyone, for sharing your stories. Health and wellness to each and every one of you.
Thank you for sharing

I am a licensed mental health counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist; I appreciate the stories and ownership over the experience, I felt some of the aspects you debated with Elizabeth were important, but some facts were inaccurate and slightly bias. I think you would find healing and validation through somatic awareness, since you mentioned your ptsd symptoms are embodied. I am conducting research regarding trauma and the long-term impact of unresolved adverse experiences and chronic pain, fibromayalgia, etc. I am wondering if chronic illness/chronic pain conditions are common among your network of survivors? Also, your stories are safe in the counseling field. Research is revealing tremendous paths for healing for mind-body experiences and disorders, and I encourage you to allow the research to happen, I know how important it is to be seen and understood in your context and feeling validated in your identity as survivor. Social psych and individual psych offer limited and outdated perspectives, and if you are interested in learning more, psycho education can actually reduce symptoms, even somatic ones. This is coming from a personal place, I am speaking from my experience with trauma and chronic illness after my brain repressed a near fatal strangulation for 7 years. I wish you the best in your healing journey, it is possible to fully heal and there’s more hope than there ever has been
Great Podcast!
