Are we supposed to baby the uneducated population of America where they don’t put any effort in their own futures. These people do not support free education and or free healthcare because they identify that with Socialism. Immigrants come to this country and pull through without any help from the government. They take advantage of the opportunities to educate and work hard to build their lives and pay taxes and participate in building this country. Let’s be honest. The white male America need to be in charge and control and the rest is nonsense, CAST and Minority Rule are two books that explain it perfectly.

Loved that episode with Sarah Smarsh. I’d add that this eerily reminds me of post slavery America and how Jim Crow laws came into being. The powers that be at the time were weary of having a large poor class unified by struggle and thus began to give preference to sow divisions and retain power. In a weird way what we’re seeing seems to be the reversal of this or rather what happens when you have a larger group united by struggle- just a thought

Thank you Jon for such a thought provoking and meaningful conversation! I hope you continue to needle the Democratic Party in order to address their other deeply flawed approaches. The topic which is high on my list is “the rising cost of housing”! The class divide will grow only deeper with unaffordable housing for working class renters and home buyers! Unless we get to the bottom of all the elements which contribute to un-affordability of housing, most other ideas to improve economy will fall flat. Ironically, many Republican-backed policies have protected and benefited investors, landlords and corporates (who are wealthy and not from the working class), at local and national levels. The influx of foreign investments has driven up even the low-end housing prices! The tax structure and benefits disadvantage working class and middle class home ownership. Also, short-term rentals drive up rents and only advantage those who already own other properties.

The interview with journalist Sarah Smarsh is the perfect follow up to the episode with Prof. Heather Cox Richardson. Sarah and Jon went somewhere really profound; offering so much insight into what identity politics really is, how it’s manipulated, and how it’s ignored. Reminded me of how Howard Zinn described the owners of industries pitting the working class against each other by race/religion/gender/etc in an effort to keep them from uniting and demanding better wages and working conditions. Could an Independent Senator from Vermont have been right all along?🤔😉❤️✊🏼
