Monica obtained her Masters of Social Work degree, with a clinical focus in substance use and trauma, from the University of Toronto in 2016. Over the past many years, Monica has provided care to individuals struggling with trauma, substance use, chronic health conditions (including HIV), eating disorders, disordered eating, and a number of other mental health concerns (such as depression, anxiety, and OCD). She has held positions in a variety of settings, including an acute child and youth mental health inpatient setting, a high risk youth mental health outreach program, and a community eating disorders program. In her private practice, Monica primarily works with adults and adolescents, providing therapy for disordered eating, eating disorders, feelings of loneliness, inadequacy, depression, anxiety, and grief. Monica describes her therapeutic approach as integrative and individualized. She is skilled in Family Based Treatment (FBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), has a strong social justice lens, and uses a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach. She also recently completed training to become a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, where she met Tamara! Monica is currently based out of Victoria, BC, offering in person services for local clients, as well as virtual services for clients across BC and Ontario.
