Learning a lot about the history of where I live

I live in Portugal but am not originally from there. I’m always amused at how so much of Portuguese people’s self-image is based on the “greatness” of their quite brutal empire build after the Christian conquest of Muslim Iberia.

This podcast focuses on that period of history and helps me to understand what’s involved in this national storytelling of two very small countries on the edge of Europe that once controlled so much of the world. The narrator is knowledgeable, pleasant to listen to, and invites historians who are experts in their fields. I’m learning a lot.
