Leadership is Feminine

Kris Plachy
Leadership is Feminine

For most women, when we are invited to study leadership the teachers, scholars, authorities and models are primarily… men. We are indoctrinated from the time we are born that men are the leaders and that natural male characteristics are the strengths you must also possess to be a good leader. Powerful. Strong. Authoritative. Direct. Assertive. Decisive. These and so many more are attributes that are typically associated with the male model of a leader. And so, for the better part of the last one hundred years as women have made their way into the fold, in a variety of leadership roles, we have learned and studied to walk the way of a men to achieve success. Women dismiss their own knowing because we’ve been so indoctrinated in male leadership models. We dismiss what we know for what others tell us to be and how to be seen. There is another way to lead. To be in alignment. To not feel like an imposter. It’s time for the reimagining of leadership. That’s not to disparage any of the progress that has come before us. Progress is progress. For those of us who stand in the footsteps of the women who came before us we are here because of their courage, bravery and resilience. I wonder instead if women equally looked to the characteristics they learned from their mothers for leadership. I wonder if we were taught to lean on different qualities to drive success. I wonder what might happen then? The traditional qualities of mothering are communication, nurturing, listening, strength, support, grace, and yes… love. What if to be the best leader you can be as a woman, you integrated the best of both? This is how women will stand with integrity in their role as leaders. As women, we can be assertive, direct, powerful, and authoritative but we need not only rely on those attributes for success. After 25 years of watching and studying leaders, I can tell you that for sure many traditional male attributes are effective in the short run, but they typically only serve a few. Whereas, when leadership is feminine. When the leader possesses the strengths of femininity and grace the results are for all. This podcast is my like my gentle request and invitation to my fellow female leaders that we reclaim the world leadership as one that is a feminine definition. That we continue to work with all of our allies to build organizations and systems that include more support, collaboration, grace and communication. And that we do so not because we are uncomfortable with the more traditional male-dominating models, but because we truly do know that leadership is a feminine strength and attribute. And the world needs more of us leading. Now more than ever.

    On Being Committed

Are you finding it challenging to follow through on your goals, even though you genuinely want to achieve them? Do you notice a gap between your intentions and your actual commitment, especially when the going gets tough? With the end of the year approaching, many of us are reflecting on our goals and thinking ahead to what we want to accomplish. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy discusses the concept of true commitment and explores the difference between simply wanting something and being fully committed to making it happen. Using her own goals as an example, Kris reveals her own moments of doubt and how she's come to realize that accomplishing big things doesn’t just happen; it takes serious change, focus, and unwavering commitment. Kris explains that commitment requires going all in, staying the course, and investing in your goals even when things come up. Of course, we all have things we want, but are we truly willing to do what it takes to make them happen? It's more than just a list of ambitions; it’s about narrowing our focus and fully committing to a singular goal. As Kris says, “Be honest about what it is that you really, really, really want... and then, look at the bigger plan.” She also discusses the importance of being a woman of her word, to herself and those she commits to. Kris also points out how breaking commitments can lead to a self-perpetuating cycle of not following through. Giving your word should, therefore, be a respected and thoughtful act. Join Kris as she navigates understanding desires versus commitments, the impact of your commitments on others, and how being intentional with commitments can create not only a better image of oneself but also a clear path to achieving those ambitious life goals. Key Takeaways From This Episode Personal Reflections on Commitment Exploring Reasons of Wanting Something Understanding the Struggle of Commitment: Ensuring that it is a priority. Why Do You Work? | E185

Do you find yourself frustrated because your team isn't working the way you expected? Are you struggling to understand why your employees don’t seem to share the same drive and commitment that you bring to your business? In this episode of *Leadership is Feminine*, host Kris Plachy explores the diverse reasons people work and how understanding these differences can transform your approach to leadership. Kris explains that it is easy to assume that everyone’s motivations for working are the same, but the reality is often very different. The assumptions leaders make about others' motivations for working can create conflict. She explains that leaders often expect their team members to share the same level of dedication, only to face disappointment when reality doesn't align. Kris introduces the concept of the "leadership lens," highlighting that each person views work through their own set of experiences, values, and beliefs, which can greatly differ from those of their leaders or colleagues. As Kris states, “The reason we work is ours and ultimately, the only person who is accountable for whatever that reason is – is you.” She encourages listeners to take responsibility for their own motivations while also fostering a culture of accountability within their teams. Kris provides a practical solution by emphasizing the importance of setting a strong foundation: ensure the vision is clear, values are well-defined, and team members understand their roles and agreements. She stresses that leaders must hold employees accountable to these expectations while consistently providing feedback to foster growth and alignment within the team. This episode offers practical guidance for leaders who want to move past frustration and build a workplace where different motivations are understood and valued, leading to more effective collaboration and results. From Resistance to Acceptance | E183

In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy dives into the power of acceptance and the futility of resisting reality. Drawing from her 13 years of leading retreats in Hawaii, Kris reflects on a key question she frequently asks: "What do you wish wasn’t?" This thought-provoking question highlights how often we get stuck wishing circumstances, people, or experiences were different. Instead of fighting against what is, Kris encourages listeners to embrace the present and explore new possibilities. Through a series of reflective stanzas, she emphasizes the importance of taking personal agency and making new choices, rather than expending energy on resistance. Tune in to discover how shifting from wishing for change to embracing your power to act can propel you forward as a leader and visionary. “There is no way to make what was again. There are only choices that move us forward or keep us stuck. The past is gone, the present is our current truth. But the future, our future, always exists in our next step.” Key Takeaways From This Episode The Core Question: What do you wish wasn't? Why Gen X Women Struggle So Much With Support

As a driven entrepreneur, you likely pride yourself on being self-reliant and handling everything on your own. Yet, deep down, you know that to grow your business and thrive, you need to lean on your team more. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy explores the challenge many Gen X women entrepreneurs face: asking for and accepting support. Raised with a strong sense of independence, you might struggle to delegate, and when others fall short, it's tempting to just do it yourself. But what if, instead of rescuing everyone, you could guide them—and in the process, free up your own time and energy? Kris shares her strategies on maintaining emotional balance when dealing with disappointments, and how to guide others through their errors, instead of rescuing them. She encourages us to assess situations pragmatically, rather than letting our emotional tolerance dictate our response to setbacks. As you tune into this episode, discover a new leadership mindset that fosters support, maturity and growth. You won't want to miss out on Kris’s guidance on how to accept and cultivate support and step out of managing and into leading, as the visionary you are. “‘No one can do it better than me.’ That is the most painful lie you're telling yourself. And who cares if they can't do it better than you or as well as you? You know what they can do? They can do it well, and they can do it well based on their brain, as long as your results are specific.” Key Takeaways From This Episode Understanding Gen X Female Entrepreneurs: The struggle to accept help due to the innate need for independence. The Problem with Self-Reliance: The high bar set for others while simultaneously experiencing exhaustion of trying to do it all.
