16: The Truth About Membership Retention (& Why Nothing You've Tried is Working)

Running your membership like a course creator is bad for business. Unfortunately... it's also the default. If you plan your membership content by asking questions like: ❓ What topic should we cover this month? ❓ What's been on my mind lately? ❓ What would members find interesting? ❓ What ideas do I want to share? Then you're defaulting to something I call "Idea Thinking". This is one of the most powerful things you can do in your business — but it's terrible strategy if you want to improve your retention and recurring revenue. The antidote? 💫 Action Thinking. 💫 Actions First, Ideas Second is one of the three essential Membership Design Principles I'm laying out in this episode. If you ever: ➡️ Feel resentful of how much you're doing in your membership ➡️ Don't know why members aren't taking action on your brilliant ideas & resources ➡️ Have tried a few things to improve your member retention, but you're still not happy with your recurring revenue ➡️ Worry that you're cluttering your membership with too much stuff — yet you're afraid to do less, in case that undercuts the value of your offer This episode will shift the way you think about your membership. 13: Why "Going Evergreen" Won't Solve Your Membership Sales Problem

Many membership owners dream of setting up an evergreen funnel to solve their sales challenges, but the reality is more nuanced. In this episode of The Membership-Driven Business Podcast, we're exploring why having a robust, multi-faceted sales system is crucial — and why evergreen alone won't save you. We're talking about: 🔹 The three essential pillars of a sustainable membership sales system and why skipping straight to evergreen could be setting you up for frustration 🔹 How to approach live launching in a way that energizes (rather than exhausts) you and aligns with your natural strengths 🔹 Why creating alignment between your promotional style and membership experience is crucial for long-term success 🔹 How to design promotional strategies that match your current resources and capacity (without burning yourself out) Episode highlights: 🔸Why building “live launch” skills first creates a stronger foundation for any sales system in your business — evergreen or otherwise 🔸 How personality tools like Fascination Advantage and StrengthsFinder can help you design launches that feel natural 🔸 Why being yourself during promotions isn't just more enjoyable — it's actually better for business 🔸 The "reverse bait-and-switch" trap: how under-promoting and over-delivering hurts both you and your members 🔸 Real examples of how different personality types can approach launching effectively 🔸 The “campfire story” of how one client elevated her launches by aligning them with her natural teaching style ⚠️ HEADS UP: If you want support with creating a sales system that feels authentic and sustainable, my Mini-VIP Day, Irresistible Offer, is for you. 11: Re-Think Your Membership Sales Page (Without Re-Writing it)

Let's talk about your membership sales page. If you're like most membership owners I work with, you probably let out an internal groan. Your sales page feels outdated, cluttered, and doesn't reflect all the amazing value you're delivering inside your membership. In this episode, we're diving into what makes membership sales pages different, and how to make yours work harder for you. We'll cover: 🔹 Why the "less is more" approach to selling memberships is a myth, and what you should be doing instead to effectively communicate your membership's value 🔹 How to showcase your membership's unique "practice and promise" - and how to sell the experience of being a member in a way you might not have thought of before 🔹 The critical "time to value" concept that determines whether new members stick around (and how to address this on your sales page before they even join) 🔹 Four specific tweaks you can make this afternoon to reduce overwhelm and make your sales page more effective at enrolling new members 🔹 The "emotion sandwich" technique that will help you end your sales page with a bang instead of a whimper (plus a real example from a multi-year successful promotion) Whether you're planning a quick refresh or a complete overhaul of your membership sales page, this episode will give you practical steps to showcase your membership's true value and enroll more of the right members who stay longer. ⚠️ HEADS UP: If you want to work with me to elevate the way you sell your membership and enroll more members before the end of the year, my Mini-VIP Day is for you. The price will increase by $900 soon. 10: If Selling Your Membership Feels Hard Right Now...

I know, I know. There are so many conversations about how selling feels so much harder in business right now. I’ve spoken with many membership owners behind the scenes who feel like their sales are slower or they have to work twice as hard — just to achieve the same result. There’s a lot of chatter about selling in 2024, but I don’t feel membership owners are being well-served by most of the perspectives that are being shared. (If anything, the more you search for answers, the more overwhelmed you feel.) That’s why, in this episode, we’re having a conversation about what the current sales environment means for you, specifically, as a membership-driven business owner. We’ll talk about: 🔷 How to tune out all the outside noise about “what’s working”, what you should be doing, and how your results compare to other business owners in your space (for the sake of your own sanity). 🔷 The specific strategy I recommend to give you the clarity you need to take action and learn what your audience needs from you right now — so you can stop guessing, and start gathering data about how to improve your membership sales. 🔷 Why I’ve been talking to all of my membership clients about “giving yourself more chances to win” and why it doesn’t make sense to hang all your results on just one BIG launch or promotion in 2024 (or 2025). 🔷 How to test out new messaging angles to sell your membership and grab attention with a “timed engagement event” that will bring new customers into your membership and drive retention on the back-end as well (win-win)! Over the last few months, these strategies have helped my clients create results like doubling their conversions during membership promotions. Listen now for a new perspective on how to improve your membership sales during “slow” seasons — and how to put yourself back in the driver’s seat of your own business. 9: How to Attract More High-Caliber Membership Customers (AKA People You Actually Enjoy Helping)

Designing a membership with broad appeal doesn’t mean you have to serve anyone and everyone. In fact, this is one of the biggest reasons people get tired of their membership and decide to close it down. If the people you’re attracting into your membership aren’t the people you truly love to work with, then it’s time to look at the difference between an ideal customer and what I refer to as a “high-caliber customer”. Your marketing for your membership should speak to your high-caliber customers above everyone else. Better yet, you can create more high-caliber customers for your membership by elevating the way you promote and deliver it. In this episode, I show you how to define who your high-caliber membership customer is, along with a variety of ways you can attract more of them into your membership through your marketing, while raising the bar for your existing members.
