119: Top 10 Posing Tips for Consistent Wedding Photography

Have you ever asked yourself: how can you reflect your client’s personality in their images?

If you haven’t, I highly encourage you to!

The more you can reflect the couple’s true personality… and NOT try to fit them into a box…, the more they’re going to like those images.

So when you’re getting to know your client’s personality, ask yourself, are they:

    ☀️Bubbly?

    ☀️Reserved?

    ☀️Loud?

    ☀️Calm?

Incorporate their personality into their poses, and let them be who they are. If that means they are calmly leaning against a wall with their partner, great! But if that means doing tricks over the swamp here in Louisiana (which has actually happened during a shoot!), that’s great, too. 🐊 Either way, your clients will feel like you got to know them and created a very custom, catered experience to reflect who they are as people. And who doesn’t love a service unique to them?!

117: 7 Ways to Connect with Other Photographers

117: 7 Ways to Connect with Other Photographers

The one thing we can always count on in life is that we can’t control everything.

Things happen — and this is when it really helps to have a strong network of peer photographers.

Maybe you have a family emergency, or you go into labor the morning of your clients’ wedding.

As a photographer and business owner, there’s no corporation backing you up or PTO stored up to use in these instances. If we have an emergency, it’s up to us to figure out how to handle it without leaving the client hanging.

Especially in the wedding business, there can’t be any last minute cancellations. But when life inevitably happens, it’s great to have friends in the business that you can lean into when you need help.

Want to hear 6 other reasons why it’s good to have friends in the biz? Check out this week’s video, where I talk about why we should connect with other photographers in our market (and how to do it).

118: 10 Ways to Create a Great Client Experience

The first thing you should do when trying to craft a better client experience might seem a little counterintuitive… Take a step back. Sometimes, when we’re really in the thick of our business, it can be hard to figure out what is and isn’t working. So it’s important to take a step back and approach your business as if you were the client. What sorts of touch points or experiences would make you feel completely taken care of? Here are just a few (but I cover 7 others in this week’s video!): ✨Create connection points that aren’t about the wedding. Show interest in their lives! Know their names, their pet names, their jobs, etc. ✨Understand their insecurities. When photographing a client, ask them about their insecurities or things they might be self-conscious about. ✨Don’t be afraid to hop on the phone. Picking up the phone and having a conversation with a client shows them you’re there to support them. Want to hear all 10 of the touchpoints you can use to craft a truly unforgettable and out-of-this-world client experience? Check it out! 116: How to Make More Money as a Wedding Photographer

116: How to Make More Money as a Wedding Photographer

Have you ever heard that ⌚ is 💸 ?

Of course you have – because it’s true!

Hear me out: let’s say a client pays you x number of dollars for a session and you spend 12 hours photographing, editing, and organizing everything for that session. 🙈

Now let’s say the same client books you for the same pay and you spend 6 hours on those tasks… you’ve just doubled your hourly rate. See where I’m going with this? 😏

I know from starting my business from the ground up that those things take time. You won’t have it all figured out at first, so little by little, you will want to develop systems that will save you time.

What systems am I talking about? Check out this episode! 📸

115: What to Charge for Luxury Wedding Photography

115: What to Charge for Luxury Wedding Photography

We all know that, when it comes to photography, it’s about more than just the photo session itself. There’s going to be a much greater time commitment than the 7-hour wedding day.

It’s also about how long it takes you to get there, prep your gear, come home, back up your images… all of the things you need to do to give your client the best experience. So when you’re thinking about your time, it’s important to take these things into consideration.

You have X number of hours per month that you can work, and X number of jobs that you can take on. And when you’re taking on that 7-hour wedding job, it’s not only 7 hours. It’s probably closer to 40-60 hours to really complete the job. 😱😱😱

I know that took some of you by surprise, laying it out like that.

So let me ask you… do you feel like your rates reflect the time you really put into your work?

114: Establishing Yourself as a Luxury Wedding Photographer

114: Establishing Yourself as a Luxury Wedding Photographer

Emotional awareness: A photographer’s most subtle skill. Especially when it comes to wedding photography, your ability to intuit and be aware of the emotions around you can be SO invaluable. Don’t interrupt emotional moments, like when you see that the bride and groom want a moment alone after the ceremony. It’s also important to know when to step back and regulate your own emotions and the emotions of those around you to the best of your ability. Have you ever had a situation where you intuitively knew you needed to fade into the background? Let me know in the comments! DOWNLOAD THE FREE POSING GUIDE: catherineguidry.com/posing-guide-yt

Love this Podcast

I am so happy I discovered Catherine’s podcast! I happened to find it because I am a working mom with a full time family branding photography business and I loved her episode where she had a panel of other working moms who are also juggling running successful businesses.

It was incredibly encouraging to listen to, and it was a great reminder that I am not alone in my business journey (there are other moms out there too who are in the same boat as me!)

Thank you Catherine!

Love love love

I've really taken alot away from this podcast. There is alot of tangible advice and motivation that failures are just getting you closer to a better success. Catherine conducts the interviews flawlessly, love her questions and conversations with her guests.

Most Well Rounded Business Podcast

This has got to be one of the most enjoyable ways to learn about running a small business. Although geared toward photographers, there are so many other aspects that are covered in the interviews that are conducted. I have learned so much and been so inspired by every one of these episodes, whether in my field of family photography or not. Give it a listen; you won’t be disappointed!
