[OLDIE BUT GOODIE] The Fear of Visibility with Jennifer Ogunyemi

[OLDIE BUT GOODIE] The Fear of Visibility with Jennifer Ogunyemi

Have you ever shied away from the spotlight, thinking that it might help your business rather than hurt it?

Black women and visibly Muslim women have to decide how they want to show up for their businesses — all while navigating the complex expectations and stereotypes that come along with their identities.

My guest is Jennifer Ogunyemi, the founder of Sisters in Business, the largest organization in the UK dedicated to inspiring, connecting, and elevating Muslim women in business. Jennifer serves as a mentor to countless Muslim women. But before her business took off, she struggled with how to show up visibly in her business. In fact, while her business was taking off, no one knew that a Black woman was behind it. That led her to miss out on opportunities and affirmation as a business owner. Now, she encourages Muslim women to show up for themselves.

[OLDIE BUT GOODIE] Going and Growing Too Slow with Belinda Weaver

[OLDIE BUT GOODIE] Going and Growing Too Slow with Belinda Weaver

Have you ever had a business idea that you sat on, then watched others take on and use?

My guest is Belinda Weaver, the owner of Copywrite Matters, host of the Hot Copy podcast, and a coach and mentor to people like me in the industry. Belinda created the concept for a copywriting course and membership site to scale her business … and then sat on it. While she waited to perfect the site, other content creators jumped on the same idea and ran with it. That mistake led her to really think about her work-life balance, the speed at which she works, and how to differentiate herself from competitors better.

“My Business Became My Entire Identity” with Laura Jane Barnes (TikTok & IG viral sensation!)

Laura Jane Barnes is an entrepreneur, creator, musician, and social media savant who also happens to be a TikTok & IG viral sensation. (You’ve probably heard one of her songs!)

In this interview, Laura shares her biggest business mistake: the inability to separate her personal identity from her business.

I talk about my own personal loss and Laura recounts her journey from viral music creation on social media to redefining her business approach after a critical injury.

Together, we examine how tying your identity too closely to business successes can often be disastrous.

Incredibly valuable

As a copywriter and content manager, I find the insights and lessons Eman shares both solo and with her guests to be incredibly valuable. As a business owner, you simply don’t know what you don’t know, especially if you’re still trying to figure out what growth looks like for you. Hearing these behind the scenes conversations with industry leaders is so helpful in filling in the gaps you can only learn from experience. Thank you Eman for sharing your insights, so more service providers like myself can continue to grow!

Love the Laura Belgray interview!

Great insights:
Once you stop emailing your list you stop building trust…You’ve got to keep emailing. “…If you go away, you lose that trust”.

She starting having her success at 50 she feels like :). I’m 55 so I love that!

and she just drives home… After making the mistake of stopping to email her email list… KEEP EMAILING

Great Questions!

I love the concept behind this show and Eman asks great questions. More conversations like this are needed. We all mistakes and it’s time to normalize it and learn from them.
