Momenta on the Main Line - Episode #15: Jessica Brennan

In this episode, Drs. Joanna & Ilan sat down with our friend Jessica Brennan, a Home Detox Concierge and owner of Clean Product Junkie, to discuss her experience helping moms navigate reducing exposure to harmful toxins both in personal care and household products. When Jessica’s twin boys were both diagnosed with asthma (and one with eczema) at a very young age, she began questioning whether the ingredients in the personal care and household products she was using could be contributing to their intensifying symptoms. After doing some research she came to understand the reality of the beauty and household product industries. She was stunned to learn that current federal regulations fail to protect the general public from harmful and toxic ingredients that research has linked to the exacerbation and even development of significant health conditions Jessica shares her insights and provides helpful resources to help listeners become better equipped to not only avoid harmful ingredients, but also to find healthier alternatives to keep their families and homes as healthy as possible. She also shares her experience visiting Washington, DC to advocate for more protective regulatory protections within these industries. We hope you enjoy this episode, and be sure to check out some of the free resources that Jessica has created to help people identify some of the most harmful ingredients in popular products! Guest Bio: Jessica Brennan is a Home Detox Concierge & Founder of Clean Product Junkie.  She helps moms lower the toxic load in their homes by walking them through how to identify hidden toxins in their household products and find safer alternatives. Most people assume that natural and organic products are safer, but that’s not always the case and it’s Jessica's mission to guide her clients through the murky & sometimes overwhelming shopping process. With over 8 years of experience in label reading and advocating for more health protective laws in the personal care industry, she is passionate about helping others feel confident in their ability to choose the safest products on the market & create the healthiest home possible. Episode #13: Rob Schimony

In this episode, Dr. Ilan Green sits down with Rob Schimony who is a PGA teaching professional from Lansdale, Pennsylvania and he is in his third season as an instructor at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown. We got to discuss a lot of interesting topics that I think will be really beneficial for our listeners who are golfers, or those who work with golfers. Rob shared his “ground up” approach to working with golfers, tips for posture, stance, and other pre-swing fundamentals, and we dove into performance aspects such as applications of the kinematic sequence, hip/torso separation and common faults in footwork that lead to breakdowns up the kinetic chain. I had a lot of fun chatting with him, so I hope you enjoy the episode! Let’s get into it. Guest Bio: Rob Schimony is a PGA teaching professional from Lansdale, Pennsylvania and he is in his third season as an instructor at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown.  He’s studied under the mentorship of several top 100 teachers including Claude Harmon III, Jack Lumpkin and Justin Parsons. As a recent graduate of Coastal Carolina’s PGA Golf Management program, Rob has had the opportunity to spend time with coaches throughout the east coast as part of the university’s internship program. These include both the Butch Harmon Golf School at the Floridian and the Sea Island Golf Performance Center.  In his free time, he enjoys playing ice hockey and tennis which were also two childhood hobbies. Reading up on other teachers and researching new instructional content are other passions as well. Rob is a big believer in the TPI framework, Swing Catalyst fundamentals, and Discover Golf mission. Episode #12: Deanna Segrave-Daly, RD

In this episode, Dr. Joanna Holleran sits down with Deanna Segrave-Daly who is a Registered Dietitian, best-selling cookbook author, and co-owner of Teaspoon Communications. Deanna discusses her background and the path that led her to becoming an education and community-focused dietitian, rather than working in a hospital/medical setting and the things that influenced her to focus on helping people find joy in food and cooking. They also discuss the Mediterranean Diet, which includes the story behind what brought her to focus on this specific regional cuisine. We often find that most of what we think about Mediterranean cuisine is derived from Italy, Greece, Spain, and southern France, but there is so much more! There are 22 countries that border the Mediterranean Sea and they all have their own unique culture and influence on food based on the ingredients available to them. Deanna also provides insights into sustainability in the context of food and cooking, which is the emphasis of her newest book “The Sustainable Mediterranean Diet Cookbook”. This includes concepts that help to fulfill your individual needs without compromising the needs of future generations and touches on aspects including reducing food waste, how to economically source your food, and tips that we can use on an individual basis to prevent negative impacts on our environment. Deanna provides insights into some of her favorite recipes (from more than 1,000 recipes that she’s created!), tips for mixing vegetables into meat-centered meals, and ways to think about sourcing seafood sustainably. Deanna has a new and exciting opportunity through her company, Teaspoon of Spice, where she helps to organize trips to various countries along the Mediterranean Sea so you can experience first-hand the culture and food the region has to provide! You can pre-order her new book (coming out in December, 2022) and check out her other cookbooks available here: https://teaspoonofspice.com/the-sustainable-mediterranean-diet/ You can visit her website to find new recipes and to learn more about their upcoming trips to Provence, France and Istria, Croatia in 2023: www.teaspoonofspice.com We really enjoyed recording this episode and know that you will too! Guest Bio: Based outside of Philadelphia, Deanna Segrave-Daly, RDN, is a food-loving dietitian who co-owns Teaspoon Communications, a food–focused nutrition communications group that has consulted with a variety of national and regional health and food organizations for over 15 years. Deanna writes, develops recipes and dabbles in food iPhoneography and videography for her popular blog, Teaspoon of Spice. She also regularly live streams on Teaspoon of Spice’s Facebook page along with her business partner, Serena Ball, where they are known as “two dietitians who love food as much as you do.” Spanning two decades of recipe development, traditional and social media communications experience, Deanna has honed her culinary nutrition skills in the Mediterranean lifestyle and has co-authored three books, the best-selling 30-Minute Mediterranean Diet Cookbook, Easy Everyday Mediterranean Diet Cookbook and coming this December, The Sustainable Mediterranean Diet Cookbook: More Than 100 Easy, Healthy Recipes to Reduce Food Waste, Eat in Season and Help The Earth. Most recently, Deanna has teamed up with Bliss Travels, a boutique tour group, to customized trips to Mediterranean locations. The first “Travel with the Teaspoons” culinary tour will be in Provence, France this fall with two more trips planned for 2023 (back to Provence next June and then Croatia that fall.) Deanna has a B.S. in Nutrition and a B.S. in Marketing both from Penn State. Her teen daughter and tricky eater husband keep her inspired to create appealing, good-for-you family cuisine at home in Havertown, PA where they live with their two rescue cats.
