I came up with the idea growing up with a learning disability myself due to a brain hemorrhage at birth. I had trouble remembering info but I could recall hundred of songs in my head and play them back on the piano. I had this strange ability to count the # of SI later figured out how to combine any song with any task to assist with memory retrieval; have been doing so since I was 10 (now 34). I now help other kids who struggle with memory recall, behavior mgmt, life skills, etc. below is a sample of a student with anxiety + autism l, helping him “stay calm” https://youtu.be/-bUuU2d

Music & mnemonics
When I was a kid, I found a strange way to use my strength to compensate for my weaknesses. MUSIC for MEMORY! Using small melodies as a tool for memory retrieval to remember...well... EVERYTHING!

Ability part 2: your strength
I distinguish ability versus inability. I talk about it personally and how I capitalize on my strength instead of honing on my weakness and I encourage others with a disability to do the same!
-
What is your strength?
I want to clarify ability versus inability as well as I want to know what is your strength

Disability doesn’t = inability
Please don’t confuse the word “disability” with an inability to do something. Just because a person is bound in a wheelchair doesn’t mean he/she cannot get from point A to B. Think about that on a macro level for a second...

PEMDAS + “everybody dance now”
Growing up with a learning disability, I had a lot of trouble remembering info. However, I had this strange obsession with counting syllables. I found a correlation with the rhythm in songs and the syllables in tasks. I would pair them together to match any song and task perfectly as a tool for memory retrieval... being doing so for 24 years; I now help other people with memory retrieval issues :)
