Joe Bonamassa talks about music, business, inspiration, and more in this new Music Matters Podcast EP11 - S07

Legendary blues-rock guitarist and vocalist Joe Bonamassa has undeniably left an indelible mark on the music industry. In his recent exclusive interview with the Music Matters podcast, Joe reflects on his journey, highlighting the importance of authenticity and innovation in his illustrious career. With 27 #1 Billboard Blues albums, his success is a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for his craft.

A Blend of Analog Nostalgia and Digital Consistency

Joe discusses recording in legendary studios like Abbey Road and Fame in Muscle Shoals, emphasizing the magic of vintage analog equipment. He fondly recalls the iconic Neve consoles and their impact on music production but acknowledges the consistency of modern digital mixing. With the release of his latest album, Blues Deluxe 2, and an exciting summer tour on the horizon, Bonamassa continues to showcase his innovative spirit while paying homage to his roots.

Betting on Yourself and Standing Out in the Industry

Bonamassa emphasizes the importance of self-belief and strategic decision-making in a competitive industry. He credits his success to reinvesting earnings in himself, effective marketing, and staying true to his unique style. While navigating the challenges of streaming platforms, Bonamassa stresses the value of authenticity in projects like his collaborations with Beth Hart, Rock Candy Funk Party, and supergroup Black Country Communion.

Embracing Challenges and Staying True to One’s Roots

The blues guitarist acknowledges the difficulties of building a loyal fan base while staying true to his roots. Despite performing with a 40-piece orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, Bonamassa admits to grappling with self-doubt throughout his career. He advises young musicians to pursue their passion, resist conformity, and embrace their authenticity, as setting trends and being unique are key elements of success in a saturated market.

Giving Back and Supporting Music Education

Bonamassa highlighted the importance of giving back to the music community through the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation. By providing financial support to music education programs and musicians in need, the foundation has raised over $1,000,000 during the pandemic through streamathons and personal contributions.

Bonamassa leaves us with an inspiring message about the power of passion, determination, and staying true to oneself in the face of an ever-evolving industry. The new release of his latest single ”24 Hour Blues” (Live At The Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra) exemplifies this.

    JacQ Becker/Mama B with a new children’s album, and great advice for new artists! ~ EP10 - S07

In this engaging podcast episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mama B, also known as JacQ Becker, a talented children’s music creator, writer, and producer. Mama B recently released her first solo album, ”Imagineology,” a delightful blend of pop, jazz, and hip hop designed to appeal to both children and parents.

Mama B’s Background in Music and Transition to Children’s Music

Mama B’s love for music began at a young age, influenced by legends like Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin. She pursued her passion by working in various roles within the music industry, including marketing, film and TV licensing, and publishing. Her transition to children’s music was a natural progression, inspired by her experiences as a parent. She aimed to create music that both children and parents could enjoy, especially since parents often play these songs on repeat.

    The Making of ”Imagineology”

”Imagineology” is the result of Mama B’s collaboration with talented producers and musicians who were new to the children’s music space but excited about the project. The album’s first single, ”Unicorn,” was an experiment in blending child-friendly themes with production styles typically intended for adult audiences.

    JacQ’s Advice for Aspiring Artists

JacQ emphasizes the importance of authenticity and songwriting skills for aspiring artists. She encourages creators to focus on their strengths and not to get overwhelmed by the need to be perfect or to excel in areas outside their core talent. She also advises artists to release their work into the world and not to be overly self-critical. In her experience, many great songs never get released because artists are too self-critical.

    Conclusion

This podcast offers a fascinating glimpse into Mama B’s journey in the music industry and her passion for creating children’s music. Her advice for aspiring artists is both practical and inspiring, making this a must-listen for anyone interested in music and creativity.

On this episode of Music Matters I chat with Rockie Lynne about his musical journey of Resilience and giving back...EP09-S07

On this episode of Music Matters I chat with Rockie Lynne about his musical journey of Resilience and giving back...EP09-S07

As a seasoned music bass guitar player with almost 40 years of experience and the host of the Music Matters Podcast, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Rockie Lynne, a talented musician who has overcome adversity to find success in the music industry. In this podcast episode, we’ll delve into Lynne’s inspiring journey, his new Amazon documentary and latest album, as well as his charitable work supporting the families of fallen service members.
    Early Life and Music Career
Lynne’s passion for music began at a young age. After being found in a garbage dumpster and growing up in an orphanage, he was inspired to become a musician when a man played guitar for him at the age of four. Lynne started playing in bands in high school, and later joined the army to attend the Musicians Institute in California.
Despite feeling overwhelmed by the talent in the barracks, Lynne persevered and eventually moved to Minnesota, where he started over and sold 150,000 CDs from his car trunk before getting a record deal. He played 321 nights in a big eight by 20 trailer, becoming a draw before meeting with industry executives.
    Songwriting, Love, and Forgiveness
Lynne’s approach to songwriting is unique, comparing it to plumbing or throwing darts. His new album features his classic, full-rich voice and great songs. One of the standout tracks is ”Heavy Load,” which was inspired by a mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The song grapples with the concept of love in the face of unimaginable evil.
Finding His Biological Father and the Importance of Male Role Models
Lynne discovered his biological father through a DNA test and was able to meet him before his death. This experience had a profound impact on Lynne’s sense of belonging and purpose. He also emphasizes the importance of male role models in childhood, citing personal experiences and the impact it had on his life.
    Charity Work for Troops
Lynne founded Tribute to the Troops, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps families of fallen service members. The organization has raised over $1 million and sent 123 children to college whose parents died in service. Lynne’s commitment to supporting troops and their families is unwavering, and he encourages others to get involved and donate to this important cause.
    New Amazon Documentary and Album
Lynne’s new Amazon documentary and album offer a glimpse into his life and music career. The documentary, which is available on Amazon Prime and PBS stations nationwide, showcases Lynne’s journey as a singer-songwriter and the importance of showcasing artists’ work. His latest album features his signature voice and songwriting style, with themes of love, forgiveness, and moving on from tragedy.
    Conclusion
Rockie Lynne’s story is one of resilience, perseverance, and giving back. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his life, he has remained committed to his passion for music and his desire to help others. His new Amazon documentary and album offer a chance to learn more about this inspiring artist and his incredible journey.

In the latest episode of ”Music Matters Podcast,” I had the privilege of chatting with two key members of the seven member musical family called ”The Rumble”, being, Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr and Aurélien Barnes. The band  already has a Grammy-nominated debut album: ”Live At The Maple Leaf” (hear it on DistroKid etc). Oh yeah don’t forget to chaeckout the bands new Double (Limited Edition) Vinyl version as well...

The bands hometown is New Orleans, and they’re shaking up the music scene with their electrifying blend of funk, brass, and Mardi Gras Indian culture.

The Rumble is more than just a band; they’re a cultural force, carrying on the legacy of Black Masking Indians while infusing their sound with modern innovation. Their live performances are a symphony of pulsating rhythms, soulful vocals, and mesmerizing call-and-response chants, inviting audiences to participate in a living tradition that’s both deeply rooted and constantly evolving.

During our chat, The Rumble’s members shared their passion for preserving and sharing the rich history of Black Masking Indian culture. I was particularly struck by the band’s humility and commitment to their community. They recognize that their music is not just about entertainment; it’s about connecting with people and sharing a message of unity, love, and resilience.

If you’re looking to experience the heart and soul of New Orleans, look no further than The Rumble. Their music is infectious, their energy is unmatched, and their connection to the city’s heritage is palpable. You’re sure to have an unforgettable time grooving to the beat of The Rumble.
