Run Like Hell: My Toxic Marriage to the Wolf of Wall Street with Guest Nadine Macaluso and Rebecca Zung on Negotiate Your Best Life #524

Run Like Hell: My Toxic Marriage to the Wolf of Wall Street with Guest Nadine Macaluso and Rebecca Zung on Negotiate Your Best Life #524

At the age of twenty-two, Nadine's life took an unexpected turn when she married Jordan Belfort, the infamous stockbroker immortalized in the Hollywood hit "The Wolf of Wall Street." Initially, their union seemed like a modern-day fairytale, but a dark reality began to unfold beneath the surface. As their bond tightened, Jordan's façade crumbled, revealing a complex web of infidelity, narcissistic abuse, insatiable greed, and a devastating drug addiction that transformed Nadine's dream into a harrowing nightmare.
The turmoil of this traumatic relationship catalyzed Nadine's remarkable journey. Fueled by her determination to help others facing similar struggles, she pursued a path of healing and transformation. She received her master’s degree in counseling and a Ph.D. in somatic psychotherapy, Dr. Nae established a thriving private practice. Her office quickly became a sanctuary for women who shared hauntingly familiar tales of entanglement with pathological lovers (PLs), trapped in the clutches of trauma bonds.
She recently wrote a book, "Run Like Hell: A Therapist's Guide to Recognizing, Escaping, and Healing from .Trauma Bonds," In this seminal guide, she shares her personal narrative and the knowledge acquired over the years. Readers are granted insights into the psyche of the narcissistic pathological lover, a nuanced understanding of the traits that render certain women susceptible to their advances, and practical strategies for breaking free from the shackles of trauma bonds.

I first heard about Rebecca when she was interviewed by Ed Mylett. Then I went and searched her and started listening to these podcasts. I can’t thank Rebecca enough for all the content you put out and how much it’s impacted my life for the better. 10/10 recommend giving her podcasts a listen. Rebecca you’re the best! ♥️

Covert narcissist episode

I think it’s important to make some distinctions — I have adhd, and have dealt with a covert narcissist at the workplace. I feel like some of the generalizations made— need to be recognized as commorbid with other disorders. as a freelancer who had a toxic client, I would miss deadlines and had reasons for it, I was being overworked. I also have RSD, and need a lot of helpful feedback and kindness (doesn’t mean I’m a narcissist, I’ve actually been criticized a lot and “praise” from others makes me feel valued and is super helpful for me because It gives me dopamine etc) I also have a really wild family situation, and would have to switch things around a lot as well. My clients schedule controlled my life and my boundaries were never honored— so I was burning the candlestick at both ends and would constantly be behind and my client would deflect. I just think there needs to be a couple of important distinctions so that people don’t leave the podcast unaware of context or situational aspects. PTSD & ADHD have similarities with some of the blanket statements made and I think that’s crucial to note. I also think it’s important to note that codependent individuals might share some of these characteristics as well! Unless the podcast hosts are truly educated on these disorders and licensed psych professionals, I think these distinctions are important to make.
