Sean Price, Wyclef, Produkt Plus Rock Steady Crew Anniversary And End Of The Weak Recaps & The “Real” NY Rap Scene

The NY Hip Hop Report with Manny Faces once again proved itself to be the single most informative New York rap resource on the planet (probably) with another hour-plus long episode recapping the latest in NY rap news, new releases, event recaps and upcoming event previews. Host Manny Faces, who was a guest as several premiere industry events including a private listening party for Wyclef’sThe Carnival III,Sean Price’sImperius Rex and Produkt’sChange The Frequency, and relayed the details about those events and their associated projects. With the help of photos from esteemed NY-area event photographer Fly Lady Dii, Manny also recapped the Rock Steady Crew 40th Anniversary event in Central Park and the End of the Weak Challenge of Champions. In addition, while interacting with live viewers, Manny went through an amazing array of upcoming hip-hop happenings in and around New York City, as listed on the Birthplace MagazineNY-area Hip-Hop Event Calendar, the most comprehensive of its kind. As an extension of that rundown, Manny then broke down what many outside of the region don’t understand about the NY rap scene — that despite a couple of artists who make break out into mainstream visibility, the true value of NYC’s hip-hop landscape is the vast, expansive amount of artists, organizations, events, styles and fans in the area, still the most diverse and progressive place on the planet for hip-hop music and culture. Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, Hot 97 Summer Jam Plus NY Rap News & End Of The Weak [S05E03]

Both the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and Hot 97’s “Summer Jam” released schedules and lineups in past days. Manny Faces provided a breakdown of the artists set to perform, as well as — particularly in the case of the multi-day Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival — information regarding other events scheduled to take place. The episode’s sponsor, aside from New York hip-hop’s #1 website and event calendar, BirthplaceMag.com, was End of the Weak, a staple of underground and independent hip-hop music and culture in New York City. Running for more than 15 years, and having branched out to multiple countries throughout the world, EODub continues to be the standard-bearer for hip-hop showcases and talent competitions. The next End of the Weak is Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Bowery Electric in NYC. Lastly, in his “Words I MannyFest” segment, Manny called out Common and other hip-hop elder statesfolks, for missed opportunities when addressing media about the state of “consciousness” in hip-hop music. While it is easy to critique “mainstream,” and give props to the “go-to” notable artists who are bucking the mainstream trend, like Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper, to sum up hip-hop’s entire counter-culture, social justice, black empowerment and self-love to merely these two artists, does a gigantic disservice to the thousands of hip-hop-related artists and organizations that are fighting that good fight.
