There Aren’t Two Sides To Attacking Democracy with Mark Jacob

There Aren’t Two Sides To Attacking Democracy with Mark Jacob

Each day the political media is showing their inability to meet this important moment in U.S. history. From the New York Times using polls to determine priorities to running fake stories as simple differences of opinion. The media can’t seem to call it like it is when it’s needed more than ever. Fred discusses it with former Chicago Tribune metro editor turned media critic Mark Jacob. In addition to decades in journalism Mark is a co-author of eight books on history and the author of the weekly Stop the Presses newsletter at stopthepresses.news, which examines how right-wing extremism is exploiting the weaknesses in American journalism.

Stopping the coming Kingdom of Rage with Elizabeth Neumann

Stopping the coming Kingdom of Rage with Elizabeth Neumann

There is a growing militant movement of extreme Christians using the rhetoric of terrorism that has analysts increasingly worried. It was a good time to talk to an extremism expert. In her gripping new book, Kingdom of Rage: The Rise of Christian Extremism and the Path Back to Peace former senior counterterrorism official, Elizabeth Neumann, delves into the alarming intermingling of modern evangelicalism, right-wing conservatism, and violent extremist movements. This dangerous convergence, Neumann argues, was a driving force behind the January 6 attacks on the Capitol and continues to threaten both the Church and American democracy. With the election year in full swing and rising extremism Fred sits down with Elizabeth to discuss the moment and what we can do on both sides to slow this dangerous movement. Elizabeth Neumann served as the Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Neumann is an ABC News contributor and the Chief Strategy Officer at Moonshot. She is based in the Denver, CO area. You can learn more about her work and the book at https://elizabethneumann.org/ and find her on Threads, X, Facebook, and Instagram: @NeuSummits.

How Do You Fight When The Government Targets Your Family with Rabbi Daniel Bogard

How Do You Fight When The Government Targets Your Family with Rabbi Daniel Bogard

The Republicans and extremists have decided that transgender kids are their target to divide the nation and focus their hate. From laws banning their participation in sports, ending their care, investigating clinics that support them to turning families in for abuse investigations. The hate has been growing in red states. Fred wanted to speak to an advocate and the father of a trans child to share what it’s like when your government attacks your child’s right to exist. Rabbi Daniel Bogard is proud native St. Louisan, proud parent of a trans child, and part of the rabbinic team at Central Reform Congregation in the city. He is one of the founders of Camp Indigo Point, a camp for trans, gender expansive, and LGBTQ+ kids that brings together 150+ campers from 30+ states for two life-changing weeks each summer. He is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute and is adjunct faculty at Eden Theological Seminary.
