On What Brings You In... Season 2: Episode 5.3: Military and Mental Health Part 3
Veteran suicide rates are skyrocketing. Unfortunately, there are many families and veterans who are all too familiar with the staggering statistic that on average, 22 veterans a day die from suicide. When active, our military is taught to ignore emotions, focus on the mission, and not to stop until the job is done. Yet, when these same individuals are no
longer actively serving, they are often met with a reality they are unprepared to face. In this episode, I welcome Dave and Stacey Campisano who own and operate 22Mohawks, a non-profit organization working to promote veteran suicide awareness. These selfless individuals give us a first-hand account of their own military experiences, explain their growing business model, and encourage all veterans to break the stigma surrounding our military and mental health.

On What Brings You In... Season 2: Episode 5.1: Military and Mental Health Part 1
Too often those who willingly give the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms are the same people we cast away in society when mental health issues arise. This is often attributed to limited resources, overall mental health stigma, and a lack of awareness for our active military personnel and veterans. Join me in this three-part episode, where we discuss military and mental health with three separate individuals with in-depth military experience. First up, Kate Honan, ex-air force who served an extended deployment in Afghanistan. Listen in as we discuss her experiences, why she enlisted, and how her mental health journey helped her on a road to recovery.

On What Brings You In... Season 2: Episode 4: Not today, Anxiety, Not Today.

On What Brings You In... Season 2:  Episode 4: “Not today, Anxiety, Not Today: General Anxiety and Mental Health.”
Anxiety is a constantly revolving phenomenon, and it surrounds us daily, even when we are not aware of it. Most mental health disorders, challenges, and maintenance begin when high levels of anxiety are present. In this episode, Sarah Trembley, LMHC, and I take a closer look at what anxiety is and how it can easily be influenced by our environment, stress levels, and even unresolved childhood trauma. Sarah also shares effective strategies for managing anxiety with quick calm-down techniques and gives us a first-hand look into what a counseling session might look like for a client experiencing severe anxiety. We also explore anxiety in children, how to develop healthy coping skills, and the importance of positive reinforcement and self-image going forward in a mental health treatment plan.
