It’s so funny how one “simple” word can have such a profound impact!

I just finished listening to episode 55. And, while I (of course) enjoyed the entire episode, I have to say that I LOVE the way you use “curiosity”! It’s definitely a challenge at times to remain unattached to outcomes and remain the observer. I feel like “curiosity” is the missing link to that equation! By approaching the situation through the perspective of the observer WITH CURIOSITY...that’s what makes it exciting to try new things without getting caught in the web of attachment!! Thank you for sharing that! (Where’s the exploding head emoji when you need it?)

What Does Your Ayurvedic Guru Look Like?

What Does Your Ayurvedic Guru Look Like?

Tim tells a story from back in the day that made him reconsider his "healthy ayurvedic" habits
What are your goals in terms of health?
Is the person you are learning from in terms of health older than you?
It's easy for a 20-some year old ayurvedic health "guru" to be healthy
A healthy and strong 60-some and 70-some year old has a lot more experience than a 20-some year old
What does your Ayurvedic guru look like?
Charaka (the original ayurvedic physician) uses a waist to height ratio. Charaka Samhita says that if a person's height is 84 "fingers", their waist should be 16 fingers broad.
Charaka Samhita (the original Ayurvedic text) says: "The persons having normal measurement of the body are endowed with longevity, strength, immunity, happiness,, wealth and other desired qualities. Those having body with less or more measurement have qualities contrary to those."
According to Charaka Samhita, "health is known as happiness while disorder is unhappiness"
If you want to be healthy, learn from a person who's older than you and is healthy and happy

Mars in Gemini | Ayurvedic Astrology For Mental Health

Mars in Gemini | Ayurvedic Astrology For Mental Health

August 20, 2022 planet Mars enters Gemini
Mars stays in Gemini until end of March 2023
This is a rare transit, last time a similar transit occurred was in 1991
Mars's transits tend to usually last about 6 weeks or so, not 7 months
A 7-month transit makes Mars a slow planet which goes against Mars's strong tendency for speed
Mars is about action, if you are going to fail, fail fast
Ayurvedically, Mars is associated with our physiological guts, our emotional guts and our mental guts
Ayurvedically, Gemini is a highly Vata sign associated with the realm of communication, travel and study
If we are relatively balanced, this 7-month period can give us the courage to exercise a lot more of our creative expression and actually turn it into something tangible
Think about doing anything and everything that you have been procrastinating on because you have the tendency to get in your own way
If someone is not relatively balanced it can lead to anxiety, impatience, anger, depression, since Vata is the fastest dosha to go out of balance
How do we know if we are relatively balanced?
According to Charaka (the original Ayurvedic physician), health is known as happiness while disorder is unhappiness
Are you happy at least 80% of the time? Then you are healthy.
If however, you are not happy at least 80% of the time, then the Rig Veda, a text that predates Ayurveda, says: One should eat nutritious food and exercise regularly to have sound health.

An Ayurvedic Look At The Carnivore Diet

An Ayurvedic Look At The Carnivore Diet

Modern day Ayurveda is not real Ayurveda as written by Charaka
Charaka is the original Ayurvedic physician and the author of traditional Ayurveda
Charaka would have a steak with Shawn Baker (one of the main proponents of the carnivore diet)
Chapter 9, verse 4 of Charaka Samhita says: "Health is known as happiness while disorder is unhappiness. "
If you are unhappy, you are sick according to Charaka
Charaka Samhita says the sicker you are, the more cooked meat you should be eating
Ayurveda was not written by yogis looking for enlightenment
The rishis who composed Ayurveda wanted to thrive
The "bible" of modern day's yoga, the Patanjali Sutras is a lot newer than traditional Ayurveda
For long term thriving, Charaka advocates maintaining a dynamic balance in everything we do
The term that is repeatedly used by Charaka is "equilibrium"
Equilibrium of our doshas, dhatus (tissues) and digestive fire
As humans, we are not meant to sustain extremes for a long period of time
As humans, we are meant to always adapt in order to maintain an equilibrium that allows "flow"
If we are not careful, when we try to remove ourselves from one extreme situation, we create its opposite extreme situation
The carnivore diet is an ayurvedic diet
Veganism and vegetarianism are not ayurvedic diets

Ayurveda and The Ketogenic Diet | Ayurveda For Mental Health Part 6

Ayurveda and The Ketogenic Diet | Ayurveda For Mental Health Part 6

    Real Ayurveda For Mental Health
According to Charaka, "Mind, self and body-these three make a tripod on which the living world stands. All depend on this."
Charaka's focus was on healing the body, mind and soul of the person in a minimally invasive manner
Charaka emphasized the process of investigation (pariksha) as opposed to blindly accepting something as already proven (pramana)
Charaka talked about animal fats as being the most nourishing
Charaka Samhita talks about ghee, lard and tallow
The Ketogenic Diet for Refractory Mental Illness: A Retrospective Analysis of 31 Inpatients
Patients were in the mental health hospital; they received a ketogenic diet along with standard of care; the care didn’t change at all, except for the dietary intervention
The diet basically was about 75 to 80% fat (olive oil, coconut oil, butter, mayonnaise, and sour cream); 15 to 20% protein (meat, seafood, poultry, dairy products, eggs, and nuts); 5% carbohydrates (vegetables, nuts, lemon juice, a small amount of dark chocolate)
The overall results after 3 patients dropped out: 100% had symptoms improve; 96% lost weight; 63% were discharged on fewer medications; 43% achieved clinical remission
Ayurveda says that everyone is different but some truths apply universally to every one
Do your own investigation, take everything with a grain of salt and do not accept anything as gospel
