Consistent, Well-Thought Political Commentary

I may not agree with 100% of their positions, but these dudes have the moral courage and intellectual honesty to be consistent in their analysis of politics and current events.

You are unfairly blaming the baby boomers for social security. The Social Security Act was signed into law on August 14, 1935, and the program began paying monthly benefits in January 1940. The baby boomer generation started much later, following World War II, with births spanning from 1946 to 1964. This generation began entering the workforce and contributing to Social Security in the 1960s and 1970s and started becoming eligible for Social Security retirement benefits in 2011 (when the oldest baby boomers turned 65). Thus, Social Security predated the baby boomer generation by a decade and a half. You also blame baby boomers for staying in office too long, which is fair except you continually use examples of office holders who are not even baby boomers, but the generation before. The Baby Boomer generation includes people born between 1946 and 1964, spanning 18 years. Here’s a breakdown by year and their current ages in 2024: • Before the Baby Boomers: • Those born in 1945 or earlier are considered part of the Silent Generation. • In 2024, someone born in 1945 would be 79 years old. • Baby Boomers (1946–1964): • Oldest Baby Boomers (born 1946): Turning 78 in 2024. • Youngest Baby Boomers (born 1964): Turning 60 in 2024. The problem with a ponzy scheme is how do you end it with the least amount of damage. Do young people who pay into social security earn less than older people who are close to retirement and eligible for social security? Of course, but this isn’t unique to this generation the same was true with your scapegoat generation the dastardly evil baby boomers. Those very same baby boomers who were born into the same ponzy scheme that you were. The only difference is that the baby boomers were a larger population, so could hide the fact that social security is a ponzy scheme. This is just a fact and not the fault of the baby boomer generation. Your solution appears to be that someone has to bite the bullet, so better for it to be the generation in their waning years instead of generations in their prime. After all many people in the younger generations can’t afford homes so luckily they can live comfortably in their parents home without facing reality. Of course every generation has the narcissistic belief that they have it all figured out and that their parents are idiots who don’t get it. As you age and experience real life, you begin to appreciate the sacrifices and opportunities that that previous generations and your parents have given you.

Dave is a smart guy and I used to listen to every episode, but the negativity got old for me. He has an opinion about everything and anybody that doesn’t agree with him is messed up. I cannot imagine Dave as President, ever. I think he’s a good in a debate, but it’s unpalatable at moments so I had to stop listening regularly.

I may not agree with everything they say but I appreciate that they take on difficult topics and try to educate us instead of pushing their views down our throats.
