    In this episode, your host Sarah Leong-Lopes, PT, DPT chats with Gaby Bolivar, PH.D. Gaby is a Socal native, Latina, and a licensed clinical psychologist by day. She coined the term, “Therapy is the mental gym” and specializes in health and wellness to help her clients live an authentic, healthy, and wholehearted life. As an athlete throughout her life, she has experience with the mindset it takes to make daily, habit changes to achieve both physical and mental well-being. Growing up, she played multiple sports including soccer, track and field, taekwondo, figure ice skating, and tennis. After college, she transitioned to competing in bodybuilding, CrossFit, and powerlifting. She obtained her PhD in clinical psychology at Loma Linda University and is also in private practice where she helps high achievers, perfectionists, athletes, and young adults with body image issues, eating concerns, depression, and anxiety. Now, she is passionate about helping people holistically as well as entrepreneurship. She is married to her best friend and lives in Loma Linda, CA. Our bodies will create tightness if it doesn’t feel safe. The ability to take in a good quality breath is what protects and helps us create stability around our center of mass. The importance of breathing through your nose and how breathing through the mouth can cause a slue of issues such as teeth, grinding, crooked teeth, congestion, and decreases your ability to fight off pathogens. Breathing through your nose, and proper diaphragm mechanics is not only beneficial from a stability perspective, but from a health and wellness perspective. The key here is to never underestimate the power of a good breath. If the breathing is off everything will be off. Your body will just find a way to compensate around it.
