In our podcast, we share the stories of other folks who have left campus-based positions in higher education and K-12. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average person holds 12 jobs between the ages of 18 and 50. Educators (like us!) often enter our careers thinking we will stay in education forever – perhaps because we’re trained to think that way, or perhaps it is hard to see other pathways. Both of us found our way out of campus-based positions and are finding it to be very satisfying.

#65 “Campus Rec to... FINANCIAL ADVISOR?" ~ Featuring Jon Broska

We end our fourth season with almost 40k downloads and with this interesting pivot featuring Jon Broska. Both Tom and Jaimie were quite surprised to find that Jon's story is one of our favorites of the season. Jon pivoted from campus recreation to being a financial advisor and we never would have thought that there were so many similarities to student affairs work. We highly encourage you to listen to this episode!
And... get ready for season five because we're switching it up and we think you'll love it!

Worth listening info to every episode!!

Listening to this podcast for the past several months has given me great inside information as to how my 18 years of experience working in higher ed can translate into other roles outside of student affairs. This was exactly what I needed to hear to gain the confidence and courage to leave my current position and to realize I can do something else and actually get paid for the work I do as well as find better balance. A big thanks to the hosts of the podcast as well as the guests who have been willing to share so much great information!

Great for those of us who want out of higher ed!

I found this podcast because it was mentioned in an article in the chronicle of higher education. This podcast has great advice and tips for folks like me who have been in higher education a while, looking to pivot, but don’t know what’s out there/where to start.
