Teacher Stories | Kelsey Teacher Wellbeing

    • Education

In this episode I interview Kelsey, a teacher from the United States. She shares with us her wellbeing challenges of being consumed by the job in her first year, and losing her identity as a person. Kelsey then tells us how she has overcome this through intentional personal growth and self-care. We talk about decision fatigue, the power of rituals and routines, and learning to switch off at night.

I also have a couple of announcements!
If you’re in South East QLD Miranda from Kickstart Martial Arts and Yoga and I are running another PD, a Teacher Wellbeing Workshop in Toowoomba on Saturday the 29th June, so head to selfcareforteachers.com.au/workshop for the details and to book. Spots are limited so get in quick!Speaking of events, make sure you keep an eye on the Facebook events list because I’m also running another free online video training on Saturday the 15th June at 9am, if you miss it it will be going into the freebies library so head to selfcareforteachers.com.au/library to check that out!I’m also currently taking expressions of interest for a new group program I’ll be running in Terms 3 and 4 of this year, all about having a better time managing and minding your mind. We touch on decision fatigue a little bit in this episode and I know that is something teachers struggle with, and of course there’s a whole lot of other cognitive demands that impact us too, things like focus vs distraction, also called deep work vs shallow work, the mental energy required to be ‘on’ in the classroom all day versus the type of thinking that’s required for planning, preparation, marketing and reporting tasks. Plus just switching off before bed. So anyway, if you’re interested in taking part in a pilot program along those lines, send me a PM or a DM on Facebook or Instagram and let me know you’re interested in the mind management program, and I’ll send through more details. And last but certainly not least, it’s the middle of the year and the end of Term time which is a time often you can feel a bit exhausted and frustrated and just over it. And honestly, that’s the perfect time to think about what you want to change. So I’m making myself available for some one-off Reflect + Refocus coaching sessions on the school holidays to help you get clear on what you’d like to change in the 2nd half of the year and how you’d like to support yourself with your health and wellbeing, as a person first and a teacher second. Now these are one offs, no ongoing coaching commitment, just time for your to Reflect + Refocus on you during the school holidays. So head to selfcareforteachers.com.au/coaching for more info on that!
