THE RETURN OF THE PURPLE CITY PODCAST (33 CHAMBERS)

    THE ASH AND THE ARSONISTSCAST

    THE ASH AND THE ARSONISTSCAST

Purple City is on fire! That fire has been lit this week by Ash and the Arsonists

After 11 years of hard work, Ash and the Arsonists are finally starting to see the fruits of their labour and there’s no way but up. 2023 was a banner year for the band; with the release of their third single “Contender” the Arsonists have elevated to a new level of recognition and opportunity, largely thanks to the flashy music video that coincided with the single’s release and the promotion and airplay it received on Power97. Additionally, it led to a nomination for Single Of The Year at the Manitoba Loud Music Awards, which the Arsonists also played at along with Northern Royals, Book Of Ghosts and Econoline Crush.

This upward trajectory has accelerated in 2024 with an appearance at Festival du Voyageur and the release of two new singles: “Bleed”, a compact, aggressive rocker with an elaborate music video to boot that made its way to Power97 airwaves on their River City Rocks program, and “Lost Again”, a relatable, melodic catharsis revolving around loss: not of those closest to you, but of your purpose and direction as well.

With the dynamic talent of Joe Carson, the high-powered, rhythmic core of Matt Derraugh, Matt Curry and the frontman and namesake Ash Sinclair and the harmonic backup of Taylor, Ash And The Arsonists look to set 2024 on fire with performances at festivals including Dauphin Countryfest and the Red River Ex and a brand new EP consisting of all the standalone singles the band has released thus far. The sky is the limit, and the Arsonists will settle for nothing less!

    THE GUILTY SLEEPCAST

If you had a good sleep tonight and feel great about it, you must have taken Sominex. Sominex is non habit forming and helps you sleep through the night, not feeling guilty!

On the other hand, if you are not taking Sominex, nor do you have access to any old bottles from Baba's pantry, then you are probably feeling guilty as you sleep. You know who also feels guilty? It's Guilty Sleep... Today's guest on Purple City Podcast.

Guilty Sleep is an emo/shoegaze adjacent band centered around the melancholic reality of staying in bed and doing nothing. Backed by members Eric, Haise, Nick, Liam and Los, Guilty Sleep aims to create a wall of sound that engulfs listeners as they continue through the monotony of life.

Come check out their "Seeds" EP release show at Darling Bar, June 1st with Great Wealth and Sea-Red from Montreal (before they embark on an Eastern tour together) and feel something.

THE JUSTIN FISHERCAST (SUBURBAN HOME 101.5FM, COURRIERS) (PART 1)

THE JUSTIN FISHERCAST (SUBURBAN HOME 101.5FM, COURRIERS) (PART 1)

It's another 2 part purple city podcast extravaganza episode! (2PPCPEE)

Today's episode is nothing but good ol' pure "Classic Fish" (thanks Liam) as we have Justin Fisher on the show to school me on all things post-hardcore, emo, pop punk and everything in between. I mean EVERYTHING! It's a long one so sit back, relax and enjoy as we get educated together by the man himself.

To Justin, post-hardcore (and furthermore, emo and alternative) is not just about the music. It's a lifestyle, a culture. Hardcore is for the youth, hardcore is for everyone. He can't stress enough the importance of all ages shows being accessible. There's a new generation of people joining bands and it's amazing to see.

Justin hosts a punk/alternative show on UMFM 101.5 called Suburban Home, where he'll spin anything from 90s emo/post-hardcore bands such as Hot Water Music or Samiam, to newer acts from Free Throw to Youth Fountain to Tigers Jaw. Interlaced are show announcements, and general scene news.
Playing his first show with one of his early bands in late 2019, and especially after seeing such bands that year as Sleep/less, Prinport and Murder Capital, it was then he knew that he wanted to pursue the scene deeper,

When the pandemic hit, Justin had a lot of free time on his hands to go dive deep into many artists that he may have never listened to including The Beaches, Indigo De Souza, Beach Bunny and it was around this time that he got very, very deep into what he is most passionate about - 80s - 2000s post-hardcore. From bands like Embrace to Sense Field to Moneen.

In 2024, Justin has some music in the works including a debut EP with his post-hardcore/metalcore band Courriers, a love letter to some of our collective favorite bands and influences including Loathe, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Boysetsfire and MetallicaEnter.

Make sure to tune in to Suburban Home, Wednesday's from 1:00pm-2:00pm on 101.5 UMFM
