If you don’t know Rebecca, she’s the host of the brilliant podcasts Crime Writers On, These Are Their Stories and Netflix’s You Can’t Make This Up. To kick things off, Ellyn brings the case of Carly Gregg, a 15-year-old who, on September 20th in Mississippi, was found guilty of murder. This opens up a very interesting conversation regarding trying a minor as an adult. Then, Rebecca gives an extensive overview of the Karen Read case, including all of the recent updates. To end the episode, Rebecca and Ellyn discuss Alex Cooper, the host of Call Her Daddy, and the recent backlash Alex received for her sit-down interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.     The Killing of Missy Bevers with Alison Sweeney

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Alison Sweeney, an actress, reality show host, director and author. You may know her as Sami in Days of Our Lives or as the host of The Biggest Loser, among a number of other TV shows and movies. Alison chose to cover the killing of Missy Bevers, a fitness instructor who was found murdered at a church in Midlothian, Texas in 2016. Based on surveillance video inside the church, an unknown man in what looks to be police tactical gear is seen walking through hallways, opening doors, and smashing glass. Very few leads have happened in this case, and it remains unsolved.

    About Damn Crime - Present it in a Good Light

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn both discuss the recent updates to the Menendez case. Recently, the Los Angeles DA announced that there will be a reexamination of evidence in the case. Next, Rabia tells the heartbreaking story of Na’Ziyah Harris’ disappearance. On January 9th, Na’Ziyah was seen getting off the bus on her way home from school, but she vanished. The police later found communications between her and a 41-year-old named Jarvis Butts, who was the father of her aunt’s child. Butts has a criminal past and had already been convicted of criminal sexual assault of a minor. Together they discuss the need to protect children. Then, we hear a quick Sean Combs update from Ellyn as the family of Tupac Shakur has hired a prominent lawyer to explore the possible connections between Combs and Shakur’s murder, which happened in 1996. To finish the episode, we welcome this week’s special guests, Gigi and Mae, to discuss the case of Robin “Rocky” Myers, who is currently on death row in Alabama.     About Damn Crime - These Forces Give us These Results

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia is coming to you live from a beautiful, sunny California hotel room, while Ellyn deals with a bee infestation in her yard. First up, Ellyn discusses Ryan Murphy’s newest season of Monster, covering Erik and Lyle Menendez. She reads the recent statements made by Erik as well as the family members of Erik and Lyle against the series, and Ryan Murphy’s statement in return. Rabia then gives us an update on Marcellus Williams, who was executed last Tuesday at 55-years-old. She also gives a quick overview on other execution cases that the Supreme Court is currently deciding on. Then, in a Diddy update, Ellyn discusses the prominent Houston lawyer, Tony Buzbee, who is now lead council to pursue claims from more than 55 individuals who say they suffered sexual assault and abuse at the hands of Sean Combs. Then, Rabia covers the case of April Holt who was found unresponsive on July 29, 2023 in her shower in Nashville, TN. It’s a tragic story of April’s death, but also a story about April’s mother, Jamie Dickerson, and how her resilience kept the investigation alive leading to it finally being solved.     Unanswered Questions: The Death of Tamla Horsford with Marcia Chatelain

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Marcia Chatelain, a scholar, speaker, strategist and currently a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a Pulitzer Prize and James Beard Foundation Book Award winning author for her book Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America. Marcia chose to cover Tamla Horsford, a 40-year-old Black mother of five children who was found dead in the backyard of a Georgia home after having attended a slumber party there the night prior. Forsyth County, where Tamla’s death occurred, has a history of violent racism, with only 14 Black residents living in the county as recently as 1990. Tamla was the only Black person at this slumber party, and the only attendee to be found dead. While her death was initially ruled an accident, Tamla’s family continues to demand answers.     About Damn Crime - Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia begins by discussing Marcellus Williams. In 1998, Felicia Gayle was found stabbed to death in her home. While there was tons of forensic evidence left behind, including DNA on the murder weapon, none matched Williams’ DNA. He was convicted on the basis of the testimony of two witnesses, both of whom were promised leniency in charges they were facing. Tragically, after this episode was recorded, the Supreme Court refused to block Missouri from executing Marcellus Williams, and he was executed on Tuesday, September 24th, at 6pm CDT. Next, Ellyn discusses Sean “P Diddy” Combs, who was arrested following raids that happened on his homes in Los Angeles and Miami back in March. Combs faces 3 felony counts and has pleaded not guilty. Then, Rabia and Ellyn are joined by our very special guests, Lysa and Danica, to discuss the American Elm tragedy. Danica’s sister, Emerall, was tragically murdered on April 24, 2023 at her place of work, American Elm, a restaurant in Denver, CO. Ignacio Gutierrez-Morales, another restaurant employee, was also tragically killed. There are still very few answers in this case.

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Ellyn and Rabia kick things off with a quick recap of Rabia’s daughter’s wedding this past weekend. You also learn why Ellyn turned a 4 hour drive into an 8 hour drive. Then, Ellyn brings the story of Erika Lee, the Springfield, OH resident who was the ground zero of the rumor about Haitians eating pets. Rabia and Ellyn then talk about the tragic death of Javion Magee, a 21-year-old truck driver. He was found leaning against a tree with a rope around his neck on September 11th in Henderson NC. Finally, Rabia brings the case of Aaron Mitchell, a former Customs and Border Patrol Agent found guilty of kidnapping and raping a teenage girl who was just waiting for school to begin.     Revisiting: Laci and Scott Peterson with Maggie Freleng

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Maggie Freleng, a Pulitzer Prize and IDA winning journalist and producer, as well as the host of the award winning podcast, Wrongful Conviction. Laci Peterson's murder, and Scott Peterson's eventual conviction, was covered in the first episode ever of Rabia and Ellyn Solve the Case. However, with two brand new documentaries out on Netflix and Peacock, this case had to be revisited. Together, they discuss both documentaries, the evidence laid out and where they stand today on his guilt or innocence. They also respond to listener submitted opinions and questions about the case.
