In this episode of Real is the New Real, Shannon unpacks the word “express.”

Expressing ourselves is a form of creativity and a way to share our voice. Sometimes this ignites feelings of discomfort in others—especially when they aren't aware of the subtle expectations they're holding onto. Emotions are key to uncovering the comforting lies.

Shannon takes us through examples of when others have tried to diminish her voice and redirect her intentions. She shares insights gained from facilitating meetings, navigating VictimHood—and ultimately expressing self through an open heart.

    24. Connection

In this episode of Real Is The New Real, host Shannon McGuire unpacks the word "connection." She explores what it means to form real and meaningful connections with others—emphasizing that true connection opens up space and an invitation for us to feel good about being ourselves.

We are so connected with our devices and social media, trying to fill our minds with more and more information, much of which doesn't really matter to us. Leading with the heart is crucial for building real connection, and that connection starts with you and your source. What do you believe about where you come from? What source are you returning to? Taking the time to answer that truthfully and openly is where connection is born from.

    23. Grief

In this episode of Real Is The New Real, host Shannon McGuire unpacks the word grief. Not only does the linguistic origin of the word bring a heaviness, it also carries emotional weight. Grief often leads to sadness, an emotion that can be difficult to express in cultures that sometimes sees showing emotion as a sign of weakness.

Grief, though, is natural, and an integral part of our lives. Allowing space for grief and understanding its purpose is how we know that what we are grieving meant something to us. Our hearts are the keepers of those memories.
