THE PASTOR - Ben Courson - Flirting with the Darkness of Depression

THE PASTOR - Ben Courson - Flirting with the Darkness of Depression

This episode is one of my favorites so far. Ben shares his own story of repeated tragedy, then the ensuing depression that led to suicidal thinking. We go strong on what happens spiritually. Then we go strong on the brain and how it is experiencing anxiety, depression and suicide. We walk through concepts of neuro-theology and how spiritual exercises truly do give access to real transformation. Our time together felt at times like we were just exploring ideas as friends, forgetting that we were recording a podcast episode. I promise you, you are going to really enjoy this inspiring, insightful and energizing show.

THE THERAPISTS - Rick and Christine Presley - Living and Leading Through the Gift of Differentiation

THE THERAPISTS - Rick and Christine Presley - Living and Leading Through the Gift of Differentiation

DIFFERENTIATION begins with our God given “free moral agency.” Our ability to choose puts a unique and full responsibility square on our individual shoulders. Yet in time, in family systems, in social systems, we see people lose their sense of uniqueness, their individuality, and they become emotionally unsure of where they begin and where they end. They become enmeshed, feeling the need to please others, absorbing other people’s emotional states as their own. And before long, the gift of “free moral agency” becomes blurred, and collateral damage begins to happen all around.

In this episode we have a rich conversation with Rick and Christine Presely. They are licensed marriage and family therapists, and experts in grief, loss, and trauma recovery. They also have one of the most grievous and injurious stories to be told. Before becoming therapists, Rick had a secret raging sexual addiction that began in his early youth that extended for years in their marriage. Much of his anonymous sexual experience was during his time as a pastor on staff at a church. Rick and Christine’s story of recovery is one that gives hope to all. However, it didn’t happen in a vacuum; it happened by clarifying foundational principles, including first, DIFFERENTIATION.

You will learn in this episode what DIFFERENTIATION is and how to implement it in your life. You are going to love this episode.

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - POLITICS: Facing Post-Election Panic

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - POLITICS: Facing Post-Election Panic

This episode is with our dear friends in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Pastors Jeff and Beth Jones. You may be familiar with Beth Jones’ TV show on the Hillsong Channel, The Basics with Beth.

We recorded this message the week before the election so we wouldn't know the results. I will speak for about 30 minutes, and then Pastor Beth and I will collaborate around the content. If you find yourself in heightened panic right now, whether your candidate won or not, you need to do yourself a favor and stay with us to the end.

In this episode I talk about how our past grief reaches forward to compel present anxiety. I share my own story of panic attacks. Then I give you some really effective tools to navigate the anxiety and stress that is society saturated.

I do pray this episode will serve as a help to organize thoughts and ideas around politics.

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - POLITICS: Bible Economics, Socialism and Capitalism

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - POLITICS: Bible Economics, Socialism and Capitalism

We will explore the questions of…, Does the Bible share principles of government economics? Do the Bible principles lean towards socialism, or capitalism? Some say socialism is the gospel of compassion and capitalism is the gospel of greed? Is that true to the text? How will the text describe Health Care responsibility? What about College Education – should the government pay for that or the individual? What about taxation and scaling taxes for the rich? Our goal is to let the text speak to us. We want to look at how many ideas are taken way out of context. We will dispute interpretations that fall out of the writer’s intent. This will be an interesting time together.

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - Politics: Immoral Kings and Presidents

THE PASTOR - Patrick Norris - Politics: Immoral Kings and Presidents

We will explore the questions of…  Is immorality a litmus test for a king or president? Do policies hold a greater weight than the general morality of the leader? If you are a good Christian, living in good conscience, can you vote for ____ ? We walk through the kings of the Bible and see 31 of the 42 kings being immoral, sinful and vile. What did God think about that regarding the direction of the entire nation? This will be an interesting time together.

Leadership for all!

I have listened to nearly all of Patrick’s podcast episodes. This is not just a podcast for pastors or Church leaders, but for leaders everywhere. I love the approach of utilizing Theology, Psychology, and Nueroscience as complementary to each other rather than mutually exclusive. I have pulled value from each episode. Patrick’s own knowledge, coupled with the deep knowledge of his guests, makes for great conversations and insight that we can all use to become better versions of ourselves. Easily 5 stars.
