Sam Goldman talks to Caroline Duble, the Political Director of Avow Texas (https://avowtexas.org/) about the abortion ban set to go into effect September 1st and the larger fight for abortion rights. Avow Texas' slogan is "Unapologetic Abortion Advocacy" (cheers for that!).

Then, we play the speech given by the valedictorian at Lake Highlands HS in Dallas. 18 yr. old Paxton Smith eloquently and courageously gave voice to all the millions of people affected by this fascist law. We should all take heart from her message that we cannot stay silent.

Steve Hofstetter: Comedy and Standing Up Against Fascism

Steve Hofstetter: Comedy and Standing Up Against Fascism

Society wide repudiation of American fascism requires people from every corner of society speak up and take a stand. Coco Das (Contributing Editor of RefuseFascism.org) interviews Steve Hofstetter on getting loud in the face of fascist threats & noise. Hofstetter is an outspoken progressive comedian who unfortunately became the cover story of neo-Nazi publications and received hundreds of death threats after notoriously going off on an anti-Semitic heckler at one of his shows. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_ERPea0Y78

Refuse Fascism episode 60

I always rate these podcasts 5 stars, but sometimes they are unsettling. Seeing the possibility of horrible worldwide suffering, if the fascists prevail, but countered by hope for a new kind of revolutionary society in the future, if the decent people can defeat fascism and make it happen.

Seeds for Good, Difficult convos everyone needs to have

I’ve listened to most episodes, learned a lot, really agree with RF’s take on all this and am often inspired and intrigued by their guests.. But the episode with Dr. Bandy Lee really challenged some deeply-held notions that I had about the role of pathology in all of this. I’ve been so dismissive because I know for a time people pathologized any kind of revolutionary enthusiasm - it was a trademark of lazy anti-communism. But from living through Trump’s rise it’s also so clear that you couldn’t make up the relationship he has with his cult base. The pathology doesn’t drive fascism but fascism doesn’t work without it. It’s a lot more complicated than I had thought and important to recognize. I really appreciate Sam’s willingness to go deep into it with all these folks and how she always seem to bring out the best they have to offer.
