Is there ever a time you just need to be a boss?
One of the questions I get asked often is this: Is there ever a time when you just need to be a boss? So, on today's episode, we're going to explore that question along with various situations where being a boss might feel like the only option. Plus, we'll look at the short-term and long-term effects of going "boss-mode" and consider those against the short-term and long-term benefits of always approaching your work #LikeABuilder.
When your people are hurting
When your staff is hurting, how do you handle it? If you're a boss, you tend to avoid dealing with people's pain. If you're a leader, you try to listen and show empathy, but if you're not careful, how you navigate those tough conversations may actually exacerbate their pain. But, if you're a Builder, you find ways to create safe spaces for people to process their pain but then you get everyone refocused on your vision, mission, and core values. That way, you help people process their pain and leave them feeling hopeful and equipped to handle tough situations and still move toward your school purpose #LikeABuilder.
The problem IS the solution
There's a distinct difference between the way that bosses, leaders, and Builders look at their challenges. Bosses tend to avoid problems altogether. Leaders tend to look for solutions, often without really understanding the problem. But Builders know that in most cases, the solution lies within the problem itself. So, tune in today to discover how to find the solution INSIDE of your problems and solve your most pressing problems once and for all #LikeABuilder
How to receive tough feedback
Have you ever received “feedback” from someone and it felt personal? Maybe it felt mean-spirited, or maybe it just hurt to hear the truth, but either way, it stung. Well this week, we’re talking about how to handle tough feedback in a way that doesn’t destroy your confidence, give you an ulcer, or make you feel attacked and defensive. Plus, I’ll be sharing how I personally struggle to hear tough feedback (and even how I sometimes fail to process it productively). Hearing tough feedback is never easy, but it doesn’t have to destroy you or take you off your game if you process it #LikeABuilder.
3 Things you should be doing to make your meetings better
If you hate meetings, you're not alone. Most of us don't love the meeting that should have been an email. Nor do we enjoy seeing a meeting get hijacked by someone with a hidden agenda or those discussions that go round and round and end up nowhere. The truth is, most meetings are pointless at best and excruciating at their worst. That's why on today's episode, we're taking a look at how Builders conduct meetings. You'll discover the big mistake most leaders make that leave their meetings vulnerable to hijacking, how to avoid those discussions that go nowhere, and 3 very specific and practical things you can do to make your meetings more productive (and dare we say, enjoyable too?). So check out today's episode where you'll learn how to conduct your next meeting #LikeABuilder.

Every day is a PD day!
While a commute to work can seem like a time waster, my daily commute has been one filled with learning and growth. Each of Robyn’s podcasts are filled with valuable, actionable ideas to grow our practice as we work toward the shared goal of doing our best for every student, every day! Thank you, Robyn, for living your purpose and sharing your expertise!
I tried to listen to these podcasts, and I want to learn and grow more in these topics. However, she is constantly promoting her builder’s lab. I feel like I’m listening to marketing efforts more than I’m actually growing within these topics.
Content great! Promoting summer builders lab...too much.
Great content that is relevant to my leadership experience. This podcast causes me to think critically and apply what is taught to practice. Please stop continually promoting builders lab. I would be more engaged and listen more if this wasn’t constantly brought up for extended amounts of time.
