Melody, is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Georgia State University Perimeter College and the first Black city council member to serve in the city of Sandy Springs, Georgia.

The Michigan native came to metro Atlanta by way of Alabama where she earned her Ph.D from the University of Alabama Graduate School.
