    Season 2-Episode 7 Movers and Shakers - Cavelle Joseph - St. Omer

    Cavelle Joseph St. Omer joins us this week on Beyond the Rig. In this episode, we conducted a deep dive to get insights from a human resources perspective on the following topics: 1) How important is having a career plan? 2) Recommendations for young professionals looking for work? 3) Guidance for professionals considering a career change in the middle of their career. 4) Advice for HR professionals pursuing a career in human resources Cavelle Joseph-St. Omer, President of HRMATT, is a globally recognized Human Resources executive with over twenty years of experience working to effectively balance big-picture thinking and strategic planning with hands-on execution. Her passion is providing HR solutions for her colleagues and clients by helping them build their HR infrastructure through technology, compliance and people. She is the holder of a Master’s of Business Administration with Distinction, specializing in Human Resources Management, from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Law (Double Major); Diploma in Labour Laws and earned her international certification with the Society for Human Resource Management as a SHRM - Senior Certified Professional. He has over 40 years of petroleum expertise, including technical and commercial roles in operations, management, and leadership across the value chain. He has worked with governments, state-owned enterprises, and significant international corporations. He has advised and assisted dozens of countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, and Central and Southern Asia in developing and implementing strategies, policies, legal and regulatory instruments, and administrative institutions, as well as the supporting operating systems and procedures. He engages and provides capacity development programs to lawmakers, public workers, civil society organizations, and corporations in this capacity. He has been an advisor to Ministers and Regulators responsible for oil and gas in Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lebanon, Iraq, Timor-Leste, Bolivia, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. He holds a BSc in Geology from Imperial College and an MS in Geophysics from the University of Houston.

In this episode our discussion centred around: His journey thus far in the energy industry Key lessons learned on his journey i.e How he got into process safety, the importance of listening, treating each mistake as a lesson Advice for young professionals looking to specialised in process safety  Tips for worklife balance referencing Stephen Covey principles - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Wayne's bio Wayne started his oil refinery career at the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago in 1990 and spent approximately fifteen (15) years in various positions in Operations. He later worked for fourteen (14) years in the following positions; Refinery Business Analyst, Performance Improvement Specialist and subsequently Head, Process Safety. He also performed Process Safety consultancy for Saudi Aramco and Total in Saudi Arabia. Wayne also lectured at the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of the West Indies, where he taught Refinery Operation, Engineering and Process Safety courses. He was also a Commissioner (Director) for the Water Company of Trinidad, where he was responsible for implementing various operations, safety, and process safety initiatives in the Operations Division. Wayne is presently the Manager for Process Safety at Heritage Petroleum Company Limited, where he was responsible for implementing process safety throughout the various business units within the organisation Wayne has a Master's in Advanced Safety Engineering Management from The University of Alabama, a Master's in Business Administration from the University of South Wales, and a Bachelor's in Applied Petroleum Engineering from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Wayne is a Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) – and is Trinidad and Tobago's first Chartered Process Safety Engineer with the Professional Process Safety Engineer accreditation from the University of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. He is also a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago.

    This week Beyond the Rig welcomes Rueanna Haynes  In this episode our discussion centred around: Her journey thus far in the climate change space Advice for young people looking to get involved in policy development Are we heading in the right direction with climate commitments How youths can get more involved with driving climate actions Rueanna's bio Rueanna is an international climate law and governance specialist, and TEDx 2020 speaker, with over a decade of experience in the UN Climate process. A former Trinidad and Tobago diplomat, Rueanna has negotiated for the Caribbean Community as well as the Alliance of Small Island States, including in the development of the sustainable development goals. At present, she is Senior Legal Adviser at Climate Analytics and Director of the Climate Analytics Caribbean office in Trinidad and Tobago. Rueanna provides strategic, technical and diplomatic advice to island states in climate change negotiations, as well as training for officials new to the UN Climate process.

He is an honours graduate of the University of the West Indies St Augustine where he read for his first degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Management. He is keen on developing Caribbean talent to pursue the region's Sustainable Development Goals.

    Energy Leaders Conversations - Neil Beekie Cofounder/CEO OperAid

    Beyond the Rig welcomes Neil Beekie Cofounder/CEO OperAid! In this episode, Neil shared his journey from being a Plant Operator to creating a local technology startup OperAid, offered key insights for young professionals looking to branch off into the entrepreneurial space and, Tips for overcoming Anxiety and Mental Health. Upon graduating from San Fernando Technical Institute in 1997, Neil served several roles at bp Trinidad including Lead Operator. After a near-miss incident, he recognized how easily unintentional human errors occur. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, his team created OperAid-software that actively evaluates Process Safety compliance. He believes Trinbagonians must build globally recognized, technological solutions that exploit our 168 years of petrochemical experience.
