What happens when biblical patriarchy, christian nationalism, and a theology of authority and submission become the pillars of a movement? Scores of abuse stories in marriages, schools, churches, families, and more. Though these ideas have filtered throughout the United States for decades, they found a home in Moscow, Idaho, through the ministry and work of Doug Wilson. From there, they have influenced churches across the United States, and across the world. In this series, you’ll hear from experts on all aspects of these movements, and the stories of abuse from those who survived. Some are Christian, some are not, but one thing they’ve got in common? They’re finally speaking out. This is their story. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sons-of-patriarchy--6517628/support.
Too many ads!

This is open condemnation of the abuses of the conservative evangelical church. It is NECESSARY, not lopsided, because followers of Christ have no excuse for tolerating even isolated incidents of abuse much less a system of abuse. HOWEVER, the ads are frequent and intrusive! There has to be a better way! Mid-sentence interruptions every few minutes across a 1.5-2 hour conversation is ridiculous. Please do better!
Potential, but not there yet

This podcast definitely has potential for exposing the cancers within the Reformed community that desperately need to be addressed and called out--however, the editing, elocution of the host, and direction of focus make it hard to continue. It moves from merely exposing those false teachings and teachers like DW to pushing a far more liberal Christian agenda in general. Contrast that with The Rise & Fall of Mars Hill podcast that did a beautiful job of exposing lies while staying balanced in overall perspective. This podcast really just pushes the viewer towards the other more liberal side of Christendom, which doesn't help either.
So grateful!!

Could be better

I’ve followed this podcast and listened to most of the episodes. I have found it to be less than compelling, poorly edited, and a far cry from “purifying” the church. A lot of the stories are anonymous and therefore highly questionable. What’s a “primary source” as the website Examining DW and Moscow touts if you can’t examine it? I’ve heard one episode that came with “receipts,” and even when examined, they did not match the gravity of the narrative. Also, the host at times has very poor elocution, muddling his words and pronunciation. There is also the awkward laughing and pauses that do not lend gravitas to the dire situations presented. I find it hard to believe he trained to be a preacher with such poor communication skills. This podcast would be more effective if he were just not in it. Furthermore, I take issue with the desire of the podcast to purify the church. While a lofty goal, they fall short of the mark. In one comment on X about a pastor who left the PCA for the CREC, the SoP account posted that he knew all about it and that it was “juicy.” I would expect such language or deportment from a gossip columnist, not a man who purports to purify the church by exposing all her abuses. While he may believe he has pure motives, it seems as though he forgets how desperately wicked the heart can be. I personally would handle these podcast guests with more tenderness. Does he think their stories are “juicy” and just a way to titillate listeners? And even when he has no bearing on the situation, Doug Wilson is the scapegoat of this podcast. Even when Wilson has no involvement in a situation aside from maybe an inch on a dusty bookshelf, the host will ask any interviewee, “How do you think DW has influenced this terrible marriage/courtship/pastoral relationship/parenting relationship.” DW has his faults, but to make him and his ideas solely responsible for any abuse situation in the OPC/PCA/CREC is beyond silly. Problem is that much of what Wilson espouses is Biblical. So listen with caution and a jaded eye to what really amounts to both salacious and sad stories intermingled with rather left-leaning theologians.
