    Shy Hoosiers in love

    Shy Hoosiers in love

Back in the day, the word “lovemaking” had a softer, gentler meaning, which made for some interesting headlines that might raise a few eyebrows in the modern era, but which fit right in to the general shyness of Hoosiers about matters of affection. Also, a few items about the dangers of kicking dogs and the persistence of outhouses on Main Street in Mitchell Indiana.

    What Once Passed For Indecency

Well, over time the view about what was considered indecent behavior has changed. In olden times it might have been playing in the orchestra for a saucy production, spitting in the French Lick post office, or wearing too many clothes.

Great podcast!

Here is some insight passed on to me, …..the Bedford area was consider promised land for Georgia stone workers. Marble dust is effectively ground glass. Wasn’t uncommon to see workers coughing up blood. The real history of Tate Georgia has been scrubbed. It was Tate Georgia, Tate marble company owned by Tate family, they had contracts for all of the white marble govt headstones. You lived in Tate housing, shopped Tate store, one step removed from indentured slave. My grandfather moved to Bedford in 1920s to work in mills. That explains a lot of the southern traditions, our food was fried everything! Oven was to keep stuff warm while you fried more stuff!! lol

Bedford limestone was mainly calcium.
