A 15 year old blind podcaster, chatting to incredible people from all walks of life, aiming to raising awareness about blindness, visual impairment and disability in a happy and light-hearted way. The goal of this podcast is to remove some of the stigmas and stereotypes around such disabilities whilst also having fun at the same time.

    69. Talking In The Dark With Steve Darling : Liberal Democrat MP For Torbay

    Navigating a society when one has a disability can be very challenging indeed so having a local MP who is also registered as disabled and who understands first-hand the difficulties people face can be very reassuring.  In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with Liberal Democrat MP for Torbay, Steve Darling. In this conversation Evie and Steve speak about lots of fascinating subjects such as: Steve’s childhood growing with a visual impairment and the impact this had on his schooling, his career as a politician and the great enjoyment he gets from serving his community and helping others, and his world famous guide dog Jennie and her sudden rise to notoriety through social media. This was a lovely conversation with a wonderful guest and we thank Steve (and Jennie) for their participation.

    Advocacy and speaking about the needs of people with disability is vitally important in making the world more inclusive and accessible. And this week’s guest has dedicated her life to this cause making a global impact on the practises, policies, products and services that big business provide. In this episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with the disability advocate and founder of Tilting The Lens, Sinead Burke. In this interview Evie talks to Sinead about her life and work, including; growing up as a child with dwarfism, her impact within the fashion industry improving inclusion for all, and the aims and ambitions of her company Tilting the Lens. Sinead also talks about her children’s book ‘Break The Mold’ and the great joy she gained from writing for children. This was a lovely conversation with a truly beautiful guest and we thank Sinead very much for giving us her time and sharing her experience.

This guest is a very talented and highly creative theatre and radio director who also works to improve accessibility and inclusion in the Arts.   In this episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with the theatre and radio director and Arts consultant Nickie Miles Wildin  In this interview Evie learns all about Nickie’s life and work, including; her experience growing up as a disabled child and the barriers she had to face trying to engage in the Arts, the importance Nickie places on representation and having strong role models to look up to, and the great benefits of having people with disabilities working within the Arts industry. This was a wonderful conversation with a truly outstanding guest and we thank Nickie very much for her time and insights.

    66. Talking In The Dark With Nick Ford : Head Of Communications And Marketing At The Living Paintings Charity

    Some organisations are truly revolutionary in their approach to accessibility and helping to make the world a more rewarding place for individuals with visual impairments. The Living Paintings charity is one such company which strives to make reading a more enjoyable experience by creating wonderfully tactile books which are accompanied by beautifully read audio narration.  In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with the head of communications and marketing for the Living Paintings charity, Nick Ford  In this conversation Evie learns from Nick all about the incredible work the charity does providing very special picture books for people that have visual impairment. During this interview Nick also shares about how the charity was first formed, the deep impact the books have on the lives of those that engage with them, and the great pride the charity felt in making the King’s Coronation more accessible for blind and visually impaired people.  This was a lovely and highly illuminating interview with a key member of the Living Painting charity.     This week’s guest is one of life’s true trail blazers describing themself as a theatre-maker, curator, poet, writer, screenwriter, playwright, actor, facilitator, trainer, director and CEO! We think they could also add ‘absolute star’ to that list as well! In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with founder and Artistic Director of CRIPtic Arts Jamie Hale  This week Evie learns all about Jamie’s life and work as a creative artist. Through this conversation Jamie describes their incredible accomplishments but also some of the challenges they have faced along the way and how such experiences have informed and shaped their brilliant career and wonderful artistic endeavours. This was a sharp and exacting conversation with a very significant voice within the disabled community and we thank Jamie greatly for their time and insights.

    64. Talking In The Dark With Lee Ridley aka Lost Voice Guy: Comedian And Author

    LEE RIDLEY aka LOST VOICE GUY. Many comedians use humour to challenge preconceptions and break down social misconceptions. However, this week’s guest did this to such great effect that he won Britain’s Got Talent and has since forged a hugely respected stand-up career. In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with comedian and author Lee Ridley aka Lost Voice Guy. In this conversation Evie learns all about Lee’s childhood growing up with cerebral palsy and some of the difficulties he encountered as a child living with a disability. Lee also describes how he shifted from a career in journalism to comedy as well as some of the inspiration and thought behind his jokes and unique style of humor.  This was a lovely conversation with an incredibly talented guest and we thank Lee for his time and generosity.

    63. Talking In The Dark With CAROLINE PAKENAITE : Founder Of The DeafBlind Everest Project

    For many people climbing Mount Everest is considered the ultimate test of human endurance, an iconic challenge that pushes a climber’s physical and mental resilience to the absolute limits.   In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with founder of the DeafBlind Everest Project, and deafblind climber Caroline Pakenaite.  Through this week’s conversation Evie learns all about Caroline’s experience with Usher’s Syndrome - a degenerative sight and hearing condition, including some of the considerable challenges her diagnosis presented her with as well as the many ways that she has worked to adapt to her changing circumstances.  Caroline also discusses the wonderful DeafBlind Everest Project explaing the training that is involved with preparing to summit Everest, and her even bigger aim for the project of raising awareness around deafblindness.  This was a fantastic conversation with a wonderful guest and we thank Caroline very much for joining Evie on her podcast.

    62. Talking In The Dark With ANANYA RAO-MIDDLETON : Illustrator And MS Trust Ambassador.

    In this week’s episode of Talking in the Dark Evie speaks with award winning illustrator, disability consultant, and ambassador for the MS Trust Ananya Rao-Middleton. This week Evie talks with Ananya about her life and work including the sudden and very dramatic impact experiencing a traumatic brain injury had upon her. Evie also learns about Ananya’s subsequent diagnosis of MS, and the way in which both of her chronic illnesses have influenced the art she now creates. As well as this Ananya explains her artistic process before outlining some the incredible pieces that she has created including a very high-profile collaboration with Starbucks to highlight disability pride month earlier this year. This was a wonderful conversation with an extremely talented guest and we thank Ananya very much for joining Evie on her podcast.
